Michael Richards (Seinfeld's Kramer) went on a racist rant this week, when his standup routine was heckled by a few audience members

Kyle Doss, an African-American, told TMZ he and some friends were in the cheap seats and he was playfully heckling Richards when suddenly, the comedian lost it.

The camera started rolling just as Richards began his attack, screaming at one of the men, "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your ass."

Richards continued, "You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now motherf**ker. Throw his ass out. He's a nigger! He's a nigger! He's a nigger! A nigger, look, there's a nigger!"

The crowd is visibly and audibly confused and upset. Richards responds by saying, "They're going to arrest me for calling a black man a nigger."

Is it as bad as it sounds? watch the video and answer "holy shit, yes."

I wonder if this thread will get apologists like the Mel Gibson thread.

My prediction for early responses:

1) Come ON!! He was just doing a comedy routine!
2) That's what people deserve if they heckle
3) I thought this thread was about Kramer from Bongwater.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Ha! I got the first one right.

That was really uncomfortable to watch.

I am far from being politically correct...but that was just bad.

Man, I'd be really surprised if anyone on here knew who Mark Kramer even was.

I wish I could play it. The "flushed away" commercial worked just fine, but the actual content was in slo-mo for me. Racism isn't any funnier in slow motion, contrary to popular belief.

Racism is funny when it's funny. I submit as People's Exhibit A:

this is where I'm putting my money... although you forgot the part where people say black comedians talk about white people all the time, even though it's hardly the same thing in this instance.

Yeah. it's a funny sketch. Replace Dave Chappelle with Michael Richards in your head and watch it again.

Edit: Yeah, it gets funnier--for all the wrong reasons.

That analogy doesn't work...the sketch is funny because he's a black white supremacist.

Now...if Michael Richards played a blind, white leader of the Black Panthers...that'd probably be funny.

I was just playing devil's advocate to your notion that racism isn't funny. I think everything can be funny. Cancer & AIDS can be funny.

You'll have to point out the part where I said racism isn't funny. I'm pretty sure I was trying to make a humorous remark based around the fact that I couldn't watch the clip.

Also, Jesus, I was making a joke about putting him into the sketch. I still think it's funnier in a twisted sort of way, but I guess I have a warped sense of humor.

This is clearly not an example of it but there is a hypocrisy where nonwhite comedians can make fun of whites with almost impunity where as white comedians do the inverse and get in trouble. This isn't a universal truth mind you.

I've seen a couple white comedians make racial jokes that were actually pretty funny and never saw a big deal made out of it. Sarah Silverman and George Carlin come to mind immediately but there are others as well.

Personally I don't condone black comedians who use racism as their whole scthick any more than a white comedian spewing racial slurs either. If you want to use racial humor I think the key is to do it in a manner that ultimately offers some sort of social commentary on the issue. Don't just do it because it's "edgy" or you want to feed off of peoples prejudices and things otherwise polite and civilized people feel but are afraid to say.

That was the only part of that video clip that was actually funny.
