Before you say this is miscategorized, this isn't about sex really. It's about acting qualifications. Anyone with Showtime or Cinemax has likely seen soft-core porn at some point. I was watching a cinematic tour de force yesterday, and it got me wondering: why are soft-core porn actors hired to do what they do?
Obviously size doesn't come into play, as the male actor's penis is never visible. It can't have anything to do with acting ability, since none of the actors seem to have any, and it isn't like the scripts really call for it. So what is it then?

Who knows. I'm rather interested in this myself, as I would rather see steamy love scenes rather than sex scenes.

Where did I fuck up? I'm very conscious of that sort of thing, so please correct away whenever necessary.

I'm surprised more people haven't wondered this (the original question, not the grammar thing).

Yeh, but can you make love instead of just "fuck"? What's your foreplay threshold?

Often softcore porn movies are the hardcore stuff filmed from different angles and edited differently for each market.

I would never say anything if you hadn't asked, but the first thing that strikes my eye is that "criteria" is plural.

Yes it is, the singular is "criterion," but I can't believe I'm part of this discussion.

I believe they are hired by virtue of being the producer's cousin. No, really, most are low budget and include friends and family in any part that doesn't have some other important qualification. On the other hand, if it's one of the more expensive, "classier" softcore movies, then they're more likely to have actual actors who are marginally better than the amateurs and might even be attractive.

I would maybe be inclined to say that the main criterion would be the ability to fake having sex in the context of ridiculously hilarious plotlines without cracking up. I saw this one Cinemax softcore about these sexual witches, who obtained their powers via fucking, and who ended up in a dangerous situation when a sexual warlock moved to the neighborhood . . . It was absolutely phenomenal. But there's no way I could have acted in it without cracking up the whole time.

No, the word "criteria" can hold up for plural-posessive as well. I can't believe I'm having this discussion, either.

Umm, Wiktionary, Webster and OALD all redirect me from "criteria" to "criterion". Please show me a dictionary that has "criteria" as singular.

I couldn't tell you what the qualifications are, but I do know that one episode of the Red Shoe Diaries features David Duchovny (who is actually in quite a few of them) and Robert Knepper (the creepy guy from prison break)

Duchovny was in more than one episode. In fact, he was the narrator for the series, so technically he was in every episode, though he never got it on except for in the initial movie.
