I love how most of the commercials footage is from thirty years ago. Its almost as if they are saying "our country" hasnt done shit since then. Martin Luther King, Peace Protests, Lunar Landings, and then KATRINA? WTF?

I love that they use Vietnam, Rosa Parks, and Katrina to do what they were always meant to do. Sell trucks.

I think it's a crock. $0.99 patriotism akin to those fucking flag magnets that were on every damn car for a season after 9/11.

That big ol' 4 man wrench is pretty badass though.

I am a die-hard GM man. My passion for the GM small-block 350 in particular knows no bounds. But in regards to that commercial, I can only say, "what the blue fuck?"

and if I remember correctly, he's not really what they portray him to be.

Good call.
from IMDB:
"Iron Eyes Cody was born Espera DeCorti, the son of two first-generation immigrants from Italy. In 1924 he moved to California, changed his name - already shortened from "DeCorti" to "Corti" - to Cody, and started working as an actor, presenting himself as a Native American. He married an Indian woman, Bertha Parker, and together they adopted two Indian sons. Iron Eyes Cody lived and worked as an Indian for all his adult life; he labored for decades to promote Native American causes, and was honored by Hollywood's Native American community in 1995 for his efforts."

"He was the Indian who sheds a tear for a blighted American environment in "Keep America Beautiful" ads that ran from 1971 into the 1980s."

i remember it also, it must have played a lot in Jersey. wink

http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/ironeyes.htm

That "crying Indian," as he would later sometimes be referred to, was Iron Eyes Cody, an actor who throughout his life claimed to be of Cherokee/Cree extraction. Yet his asserted ancestry was just as artificial as the tear that rolled down his cheek in that television spot %u2014 the tear was glycerine, and the "Indian" a second-generation Italian-American.

Iron Eyes Cody was born Espera DeCorti on 3 April 1904 in the small town of Kaplan, Louisiana. He was the son of Francesca Salpietra and Antonio DeCorti, she an immigrant from Sicily who had arrived in the USA in 1902, and he another immigrant who had arrived in America not long before her.
