Are you ready for Hollywood to destroy another film classic? Director Michael Bay is reportedly gearing up for a remake of Alfred Hitchcocks 1963 film The Birds. Bay already chose his lead for the film: The Ring star Naomi Watts.
She would play the role of Melanie Daniels, which was played by Tippi Hedren, in the original, according to moviehole.net. The script is being re-worked by Leslie Dixon, who updated The Thomas Crown Affair for Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in 1999.
Bay has experience reworking classic horror films; along with producing Pearl Harbor and the soon-to-be-released Transformers, he helped produce remakes such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre,The Amityville Horror, and an upcoming Friday the 13th film.
Bay declined to announce the release date for The Birds. Naomi Watts

In the remake the birds should be terrorists instead of birds. And instead of being a teacher, she should play an FBI agent. . . .with a secret.
I think that instead of birds....she should be facing the ghost of an angry little girl who is stuck in a well. And instead of a teacher, she should be a struggling actress trying to 'make it big' in Hollywood, even if that means going to the far off "Skull Island"
its so funny that there are tons of script writers out there yet they always go with the remakes. god forbid they should take a risk and make a movie that hasnt been seen before on a topic that hasnt been touched on before. blah. there are less and less movies out there i want to bother seeing as i get older. its a bummer.

i doubt very much if there are many good scripts out there on topics that havent been seen before

There are probably more good movies being made today than ever before.

i doubt there are more good movies being made than ever before. Perhaps there are more good movies being released than ever before. but there are thousands of movies being made every year that thankfully never go anywhere

All of this, of course, takes place whilst battling an evil post-apocalyptic mega-corporation who control Australia's water

Oh yeah and the corporation should be headed up by Megatron with a young upstart Starscream vying for control.
So, I'm wrong for being somewhat excited about this? I've been saying for years that no one should ever re-make any Hitchcock films except "The Birds". If you haven't seen the original recently, go rent it.....the story is outstanding, I love the ending, the movie was made as perfectly as it could have been for that time period. However, special effects have advanced so far in the last thirty years that it makes me want to see a new version of it. The special effects are horrible in the original. As long as they stay true to the themes and plot of the original, I say have it.
Granted, I do wish someone oher than Bay was taking a stab it.
well the great thing about the "lackluster" (by today's standards) special effects is that it makes the viewer rely more on their imagination which can at times be more frightening than having the effects fully played out.

Dude, Tank Girl is masturbation material for me...
Yeah that is pretty much the gist of it. Why can't bay just go get a Japanese horror film like everybody else? What on earth could the likes of Michael Bay add to Hitchcock's work beyond exploding birds?
Oh wait I just checked his imdb listing... he acted in the "free verse" (1986) episode of Miami Vice. The man is a genius!
