If you listen to the commentary on the first season DVD, Cohen says that part of his whole scthick is making fun of people who have so little respect for outsiders or the younger generation that they would sit through the whole process believing that someone as outrageous as his characters would be given their own TV show. Seriously if you know it's all a big joke during the process you either play along or politely dismiss yourself from the interview. Some of these people have gotten genuinely pissed off and storm out. If they knew it was a joke the biggest thing they could be mad about is having their time wasted, and if that's the case, why did they agree to an interview they knew so little about to begin with?

It's especially scary to think about when you consider how many politicians he's gotten with his gags.

hooraydiation
A victim of a clever plan that likely involved "asking" Rowe about his "opinions", Rowe had no choice but to insult both Muslims and homosexuals on camera. Now, he is paying the price.

haha... that's golden!

That's so true though....

I love Borat. My dad loves Borat.

When my dad found out there was a film he begged to go see it and when tidying his clothes out the other night dressed as Borat.

You should hear him laugh when Borat cracks a joke. It's well good.

I liked the movie a lot but I'm dreading the next 11 months of every douche bag in the world saying "ees niiice" and "hi-five" every chance they get.

Eh, satire on satire, bah.

A writer of MAD magazine once said it was harder to do a satire of a parody than a parody of a satire. A satire of a satire would therefore probably go over the heads of most.

I think Cohen is brilliant. He's got the biggest balls in showbiz since Andy Kaufman.

has anyone else read the news articles accusing sasha of stealing the ideas for his borat character from Mahir who had a brief bout of internet popularity with his broken english invites to women across the world in the late 90's. i guess he wants credit now (and money)

I think he stole it from Mahir as much as he did from Yakov Smirnoff... Mahir was similar only in that he exploited the cultural differences between US/UK Popular Culture and what that culture perceives to be the lack of culture of the constantly changing eastern bloc.
