Hold onto your Muppets! "Fraggle Rock", the show you pretend to be nostalgic for so you can fit in with the cool kids, is well on its way to coming back in the form of a full-length feature film.

While rehashed '80s properties have failed us in the past, former kids have nothing to worry about with this particular revival. Rather than returning as a soulless CGI monstrosity voiced by Sean William Scott and Ashlee Simpson and directed by some hack, the new "Fraggle Rock" film will stay true to its puppet roots and be overseen by no less than Ahmet Zappa.

"{Zappa) recently created his own fantasy property ('Mighty McFearless'wink, and we had him in to talk about books and movies," said Lisa Henson, who serves as co-CEO of the Jim Henson Co. with her brother, Brian.

"During that conversation, I had an intuition that he might be a 'Fraggle Rock' fan. He jumped out of his seat when he heard our idea of making 'Fraggle Rock' into a feature-length movie."

Zappa, now the project's executive producer, has reportedly begun approaching friends about composing original music for the film. Zappa has also been developing the treatment for the picture and currently plans to have the audience follow the Fraggles as they take their first steps into the human world.

"The Fraggles didn't really get into the human world on the series, so we plan to make the movie more about the intersection between the Fraggles and the humans," Lisa Henson said.

For a better idea of whether or not you can trust Ahmet Zappa with your childhood (or your children, for that matter), check out Mighty McFearless, the musician/writer's initial foray into children's entertainment.

at least with fraggle rock you know its going to be a plotless waste of money. i wish we could say the same for the rest of the films that make the theaters.

You know, I actually do enjoy watching the old series on DVD. But, I think a movie is a bad idea.

i'm hesitant about a movie version.. it could be amazing.. but it could turn childhood memories into traumatic childhood memories

I disagree. The fact that it's staying as puppets ultimately gives it one up on other film versions of kid's shows (the piece of shit that was Thunderbirds, I'm looking @you...there's a reason Gerry Anderson decided to have nothing to do with you) and the fact Ahmet Zappa's working on it makes the thought of it even cooler. Then again, I'm a fan of his dad, so I'm biased. wink

All I remember is that the doozers built stuff with LSD laced erector sets and the Fraggles ate their buildings. Oh and the green geeky one's name was Wembly or something like that. That show was hella cool.

I was always a passive fan of Fraggle Rock, but they were the third part of Henson's holy trinity (Muppets, Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock) so I'm glad to see them making a comeback.

I have the first season and it does in fact stand the test of time. I've known this has been in the works for a year or two, and I'm eagerly anticipating it. I believe most of the actors are returning, too.

I loved it when I was a kid, but -- much like most of 80's pop culture -- I can't remember a fucking thing about fraggle rock now. except they lived underground.

Come on people, it's "Gobo, Mokey, Wembly, Boober, Red". They say it right there in the song. Hell, I can name both characters that JH did the voice for.
