is it at all possible that these people, islamo-fascists, zealots, extremists, fundamentalists, whatever you want to call them, have something wrong with THEIR views of the world? something wrong with THEIR views of islam? with THEIR views of america?

Clearly, the answer is yes. Anybody who takes an extremist view of any ethos has something wrong with them. The same could be said about Christian fundamentalists.

Your assertion that America was simply & innocently minding its own business when it got attacked...that at no time did we place outselves in danger because of our past practices...well, that just doesn't hold water as far as I am concerned.

I'll give my own followup to that last statement...as I'm sure you'd have a response to it. In no way do I think that terrorists should dictate our practices. I DO think, however, that this country's government needs to think of the long-term effects of it's actions a little bit more...especially when dealing with a region as unstable as the Middle East. Does the fact that we once supported both Saddam Hussein AND Osama bin Laden not demonstrate that clearly enough? Does it not demonstrate that the belief that "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" can bite you in the ass?

You know what happens when you assume, Cooter?

What I am doing is continuing to not insult you and remain light hearted on a Jon Stewart thread on the Lifestyle board in spite of the fact that you are such a prick that you even ram this horseshit rhetoric down people's throats.... on the Lifestyle board. I seem to recall a thread about Survivor, of all things, that went similarly.

Well, there went that.

It's been incredibly successful. When we sent guerillas into Central America to kill civilian families in order to scare them out of voting, it worked. The US-supported coup of a sovereign country's (Chile) elected leader worked out pretty well, too. Not to mention the time that we killed 3,000 people in a unilateral action to apprehend Manuel Noriega. Hey, 3,000 dead - that sounds like a familiar body count! Maybe I should make an "Operation Just Cause: NEVER FORGET" bumper sticker.

I would make an assumption that you know the first thing about Islam, but I do not get the impression that this is true. Let me just say this: our way of life flies in the face of a typical Muslim's beliefs. Of course, just like any religion, there are people who are capable of taking theirs with a grain of salt. Let's just say that they've got a lot of culture based on de-emphasizing the rich and selfish and vain, and that's basically our role on the world stage.

Sooooooo yes. If you count wastefulness, distraction, aggression, and selfishness as character faults, then we are at fault for much of the world's resentment against us. It is like if I hit you with a bat and then blamed you for whichever way you reacted.

Bringing us back on topic in a desparate bid to avoid a padlock:

I belive Jon Stewart would make a very effective politician, but he's MORE effective as a open commentator to bring to light the retardedness of current politics.

That said, I nominate the Bill Maher/Lewis Black ticket for 2008.

Thanks for fucking a nice thread about Jon Stewart.

Since you sidetracked it already, how terribly fuckupedly wrong does every bit of planning and execution have to go before you finally take the administration's cock out of your mouth?

And once the inevitable revelation that Rumsfeld armed the Iranians comes out, thereby completing his BFF hat trick with the "Axis of Evil", ya think you might be ready to admit that this isn't the crew we want dictating foreign policy?

Assholes.
