Check out this bizarre collection of vintage anti-alcohol Soviet posters. The messages (such as the smiling, happy bottle of alcohol below reading, "This new dress becomes me well") may be lost in translation, but the graphics are amazing.

The new label reads "natural juice," (sok natural'nyy), while "strong white" (beloye krepkoye), on the old label, is an idiomatic term for vodka. That's the meaning of "This new dress becomes me well."

I loved living in Russia. Beer isn't even considered alcohol. If you're tall enough to reach the counter, you're old enough to buy a liter of vodka from a street corner at 3 a.m. Did I mention I got alcohol poisoning while living there?

That sounds like a story best told over some drinks. wink
