It's a young people relationship meaning they WILL break up...
Whenever people say this, I feel the need to throw out that my mom and dad got married two weeks after her 17th birthday (and after over two years of dating beforehand, which is about right for these here New Zealander kids, too). Twenty-seven years later, they still dig each other so much it almost brings tears to my eyes.
So, you know... Will is kind of a strong word.
true. I have 2 uncles who married their wives immediatly after high school and are still married. One is in his mid 50s and the other is in his late 40s. But then again, my sister got married when she was 20, and divorced when she was 25. And my parents both went through 1 "young" marriage first before they met each other. But they've been married for over 20 years now.

The main difference here is - she'll probably have a nanny and we know she'll be able to afford the kid...
Yeah, that Whale Rider money is just huge. Literally dozens of people saw it.
Maybe not. I bet the Star Wars money was fantastic though.

My Grandma was was 16 or 17 when she married my Grandpa; he was in his early 20's and had just gotten back from Korea. And, to be honest, I'd glad they did; otherwise _I_ wouldn't be here. And I rather like me

I'm happy for them, she seems to be one of those "old souls" who can keep anything in stride. And maybe I'm assuming too much, but it seems like she'll have lots of help to raise the bambino, extended family, etc...
I have the "when's a good time to have kids" discussion with people all the time, I'm always curious about their opinions and experiences. I'm pretty sure there's never a good time! At least, for me, I'm pretty sure there will never be a good time to have kids.

I like this story. May her child be a masculine one.

I live in New Zealand, which is where she is from and where the film was made.It was a shame that it was released during the whole l.o.t.r hype. It didn't get the kudos it deserved at its release. She is currently splattered over every nz tabloid. i feel sorry for her...she is only 16 and facing to deal with this in a very public way. She is also Maori (nz indigenous people) Which i don't mean to speak ill of the country i live in, but we have racism just like every where else. Alot of this racism is directed at Maori,...but over the last couples of years towards foreigners of asian decent. Her becoming preg as a young teen makes her a perfect target for these racists attitudes to laugh at her.
