All the hipsters and frat guys waiting in line for The Daily Show yesterday got quite a surprise when legendary director Terry Gilliam showed up to join them. Bearing a sign that said, "Studio-less Filmmaker - Family to Support - Will Direct for Food," Gilliam went up and down the line with a cup, collecting change and dollar bills. When he was finished, he announced, "This is the most money I've made in a long time."

Gilliam told the line that he was trying to drum up support for his upcoming film, Tideland, opening on Friday the 13th. While doing so, the rat-tailed auteur took time to draw a sketch for a fan and talk on the phone with another for five minutes. Brothers Grimm may have stunk, but at least Gilliam knows how to get the people back on his side.

I just got through watching Brazil, Time Bandits & The Adventures of Baron Munchausen all back-to back.

Gilliam is a genius.

Quite insane, but a genius.

You seem a bit hostile towards Gilliam. No real idea why. Does he owe you money?

He will have to create a thousand 'Brothers Grimm' before he can take away the luster of Brazil, 12 Monkeys, and Time Bandits. Actually, just Brazil.

Why oh why haven't I seen these movies yet? Also I'd like to see Lost in La Mancha.

Because if you see them, your life might actually be complete, and whatever powers that be might see fit to "call you home."

Seriously, at least rent them. Now. You'll thank us later.

I watched Tideland this summer, and believe me, Gilliam's fully recovered from Brothers Grimm.

I enjoyed The Brothers Grimm. It wasn't brilliant like Brazil or 12 Monkeys, but it was fun. Tideland looks really freaky and cannot come out soon enough.

Tideland stars Jeff Bridges, who was also in Gilliam's The Fisher King. That pairing alone makes it worth a watch.

try watching the Brothers Grimm while on mushrooms. it's like they were made for each other, and you'll wonder why no one else likes the movie so much.
