He may play thieves and sociopaths convincingly, but in real life Edward Norton is one chivalrous guy.

While dining at a restaurant in New York, the actor reportedly came to the rescue of a waitress who was being sexually harassed.

A female server waited on [Norton] and on an all-male party of ten right next to them. The all-male party was really demanding, drunk, and totally inappropriate with the waitress. Two of them in particular were overtly sexual with her. She asked them to stop and they cooled off for a while, but continued soon after.

Apparently, Norton alerted the manager of the problem before the waitress had the chance, so the two harassers got kicked out and the rest of the party soon followed. After they cleared, Norton said, "I apologize for my gender. Sorry you had to endure that." She thanked him for talking to the manager.

Norton added to his good karma by tipping his own waitress $200 on a $100 tab.

How gallant. And having a celebrity apologize for other people is an interesting precedent. Can Julian McMahon apologize to me on behalf of his gender for giving us that friend of Paris / waste of flesh Brandon Davis? That would be swell.

Good guy... with a good publicist

I'll be the dick here...but "I'll apologize for my gender" is fucking bullshit. That's so ridciulously sickening to me. He could've just said "I think those guys were really rude". Apologizing for one's gender is self-hating horseshit.

Maybe, but cut the guy a little slack. It was a dumb but well-intentioned remark that came off the top of his head while he was busy being a good guy.

Uh, yeah. No you don't have to be a dick. You don't have to look at someone and say "these words are shit" that's just being a dick.

And he's not a business man - he's a talented actor

To be honest, I would think alot of people who have as much money as he has, will tip what seems like massive amounts to the rest of us.
If I had millions in the bank I'd think nothing of tipping hundreds of dollars!

Fair play for getting the drunken louts chucked out of the restaurant tho.

Just made me chuckle aswell, as it reminded me of Ricky Gervais getting a kid with Downs Syndrome chucked out of a restaurant in the last episode of 'Extras' wink

or rather "I'm afraid I'll be backing out of this project...because the writing is shit."

I agree with Cash on the apologizing for his gender was a bit of a lame attempt at snark, but from most accounts he is a stand up guy.

All I know is he's talented and I enjoy his work. Otherwise his existance doesn't honestly have much bearing on my life.

Sometimes the writing is shit. In which case he should pass on the project or hire a writer. He has had no success as a writer. None. But he re-writes every word he says. And guess what - nobody wants to work with him. I was just in a meeting and his name came up and everyone in the room said "no way." Producer, studio, writers. He's an asshole, word gets around and he ends up in less and less films. See Timothy Hutton if you want to understand where Norton's career is headed. Great actor, huge asshole. If you think people in this business give a shit about talent, your mistaken.

He also, being the great guy he is, created a career for a college buddy of his who is a plagarist. His friend was working on Mad TV, when it was discovered the spec scripts he submitted had been stolen from a couple of college roommates. Norton made sure to pick that guy up by getting his movie made. So, yeah, he's a great guy. He treats everyone like shit unless they are a theif of art, then he's helps them out the best he can.

I was going to ask, "Who?", but then I realized that that was the point.

Apologizing for your gender is something I'd expect to acompany a particularly self-righteous act, and that's what my (admittedly cynical) ass thinks happened here. If you have enough money, you can afford to pay $200 dollars for an ego boost.
