For anyone who watched Anna Nicole Smith's reality show on E!, the past few weeks have been like a fictional addendum to the tragicomic story we watched unfold on television. But this time the drama is real, shockingly unmanipulated by a single writer, producer or consultant.
Anna had to expect a lot of press when she gave birth to the immaculate conception, but the untimely death of her 20-year-old son Daniel three days later quickly took the spotlight from the fatherless child. (Today the coroner announced that Daniel died from a lethal combination of Lexapro, Zoloft and Methadone.)
Despite this tragedy, photographer Larry Birkhead turned the spotlight on himself when he told reporters that he is the father of Anna Nicole's newborn daughter. But last night, on Larry King Live, Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole's longtime attorney and constant companion, proclaimed himself the father of the new baby. He also announced that the couple plans to name the child DanniLynn Hope (or is that Dannie Lyn Hope or Danilynhope? Hmm...). When asked if they plan to marry despite the questions of paternity, Stern had this to say:
"I've loved her for quite some time and hopefully the feeling's mutual. At some point, we will. Right now we have to somehow get through what we're going through. It probably would have been sooner, you know, but for Daniel's death. We really haven't been allowed to grieve with the way that this whole thing has been handled. And you know, it's going to be, I think, a little while before we're going to be able to experience real happy moments."
That has got to be the most puzzling quote on love and marriage I've ever read.
He "hopes" the feeling is mutual?
They would've gotten married sooner except for Daniel's death? Sooo...they weren't going to get married before the baby was born but what- the baby came out with dark hair?
Funny, I submitted a story on the same subject this morning. Figured it was well-written and would've been posted. Seems to be a lot less regular member news submissions these days...
