So I see a lot of disdain for the younger generation on this site. Criticisms of "MySpace whores" and "crybaby emo kids" and "nu-metalheads" and "pop punks".

How is this different from the Greatest Generation's disdain for the longhair Commie hippies or the Yuppies' disdain for snot-nosed punks?

It isn't but considering that the median age of the posters on this site is probably like....24, it suggests that the phenomenon may be....accelerating. Fascinating.

If there's one thing that truly irritates the shit out of me, it's someone asking a question and then giving the answer. It says, "I've already answered my question myself; I just want to bitch and moan."

A great many of the critics are criticizing a group that are ostensibly their peers. That would be a major difference, if you ask me.

It's more akin to the high school phenomenon of jocks making fun of "drama fags" (and vice versa) than a generational difference, if you ask me.

I feel very old, and I have for a very long time. Other people can probably relate to that.

Besides, my thread title was merely a restatement of the question at the end of the post, not the quesiton itself. It's an honest question. Maybe I'm seeing things wrong. Maybe it is different. That's why I asked.

But back in the day we made fun of crybaby goth kids, so nothing has really changed.

And I like myspace whores. I fucking hate myspace, but I always like the whores.
