Who ever thought that Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio would get into a bidding war over the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft? That's something even Nostradamus wouldn't have predicted, but it happened. Said bidding war was over the rights to Max Brooks' wild new zombie book World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, which tips its hat to Studs Terkel's The Great War--but rather than featuring interviews with people involved in World War Z, the book investigates nearly every aspect of what...

I'm anticipating this with equal parts enthusiasm and trepidation. While I like the concept it remains to be seen how it will be handled, how faithful it will be. Also I don't think Romero's social commentary has been very smart. I always found him to be blunt and simplistic. And Brooks' championing of his insight is kind of disconcerting to me.

On the other hand I'm really looking forward to the audio book now. Holy shit what a cast!

I'm loving the book but I can't see how you could make a film out of it. There's too many stories, too much stuff going on. Why blow that cash on one movie when you could have the ultimate zombie tv-series with each hour long episode a chapter or two from the book? Oh wait I do know why; it's all about the box office cash.

World War Z is basically the best idea to come along in a long, long time. I'd love to see other SF-ish subjects treated that way, but it's clearly pretty much the best large-scale zombie story possible. The Walking Dead is (imho) the best small-scale. Both because they deal with more than the usual couple hour snapshot of life-with-the-zombies.

I finished this book in like one day and then didn't stop talking about it for like 3 days afterwards. It is really well thought out and even though it is about zombies a lot of the social interactions feel very real.
