Wait.... wait.... Can we all take a minute here and say this out loud with me? "WHAT THE FUCK?!"
Am I the only one that remembers that guy with his friend (it wasn't even HIM) in that "golf cart gal' compitition? EVERYONE was voting for her. Not one person, unless jokingly, asked for compinsation for his or her vote.
So, this leads me to think that since that was voting for a girl we'll all be hella cool and help her out. Who cares if she's the daughter of Mr. I-make-shit-tons-of-money it's a GIRL!!! But when this guy who DOES need the money we all want a piece? SCREW THAT!
Pete, I'm voting for you I don't give a damn if your video is awful or amazing, you're part of a community here and I'm going to back you.
I think people responded more positively to the Golf thing because the guy asking wasn't the one benefitting. He was asking so his friend could win. That seems a lot nicer than someone asking for himself. Also, the girl she was closest to in votes also had an obscene amount of votes and there was a big gap between the two of them and the rest of the girls which leads me to believe that the other girl had an internet army behind her too.
In these cases I tend to watch all the videos or whatever and vote for what I think is best.
However, anyone able to enter a contest online can also take the time to get some support from people online they've never met. You could probably get plenty of people to vote for you through Myspace or some other free service. It's not like the OP has an unfair advantage. The internet provides a pretty level playing field and he's taking advantage of the resources available to him. Nothing wrong with that. No one is making anyone vote.
