"Save the world" organizations shouldn’t count on Ronnie Wood for support. The Rolling Stones guitarist took aim at Bono and Bob Geldof for their international aid efforts, saying it was pointless.

The 59-year-old also said all he wanted to do was entertain people.

He stormed: "I would never go into politics like Bono. Geldof and him can keep trying until the end of the earth but it won't make a difference."

He added: "I like to make people happy. Politics doesn't do that. Art does."

First off, genius, it’s not politics - it’s humanitarian aid. (And yes, politics are involved, but it’s clear Bono doesn’t care if you’re conservative or liberal as long as you’ll help the cause... and pose for a photo op.) Second, being an artist and an activist aren’t mutually exclusive. Some people are capable of doing both. Third, it’s been a long time since you’ve made relevant "art."

However, I imagine he’ll support Bono and Sir Bob just fine if they shell out the dough him to perform at charity gigs.

It’s been quite an uncensored week for Ronnie. In a different interview he also abuses his bandmates for not wanting to tear up the town.

The veteran rocker - who recently announced he would play live concerts "until he dropped" - hit out at fellow members Mick Jagger, 63, Charlie Watts, 65, and 62-year-old Keith Richard because they don't want to party with him anymore.

He told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "They can't f***ing take it.

"They always have to go home to rest. They leave all the f***ing partying up to me."

Come to think of it, Wood is pretty entertaining.

I know I get tired of musicians (and actors) jumping on the "OMG I'M SO POLICALLY ACTIVE LOLOLORZ!!!" bandwagaon. Just make music and/or act--it's your job, it's what you're (presumably) good at. Stick with that.

I can kind of dig Ronnie.

Fuck humanity ('cept for a handful, maybe.) And fuck entertaining people. I'm all for anti-human (inhumane) art. (Art exists with purpose regardless of there being an "audience" to appreciate it.)

celebrities live in a weird universe. if they spend all their millions building 40,000 sq ft mansions, wrecking rare antique cars, refusing to wear anything but brand new clothing and buying coke by the pound, everyone just smiles and nods. but as soon as they attempt to use their money or influence for a good cause, they become despicable attention whores and hypocrites. what the hell is up with that?

Bono and Sir Bob can say and do what ever they like - we can't stop them - we can stop a politician by not electing them. This pair should have the guts to stand up and be counted on a stage where people can choose.

Sir Bob said that Live Aid.1 didn't work, but he got plenty of media coverage for himself. I'm sure Bono isn't averse to his $100 concert ticket fees.

The real politics of hunger in Africa is,
1. lack of good governance (no corruption)
2. malaria
3. lack of a rule of law

The governements steal, do go westerners stopped the use of DDT (the only way to control mosquitos) and an Etheopian farmer who lives in a crap area, can't sell up and move somewhere else as they can't be guaranteed ownership of the land.

Plus they both make crap music - Ronny Woods art is VERY good.

Bono has gotten the world's governments (including our favorite fuckwad Bush) to forgive African debt.

So if Bono's done nothing else he's accomplished a fair bit right there.

I wasn't aware that someone needed to take a vow of poverty to speak up about helping the poor.

I'm starting to think I was right above when I called stupidity.

Oh, I fucking hate U2, but largely because the music isn't that interesting, it's vastly overrated and gets shoved down my earholes too often on Sirius 22.

First off, Ronnie can fuck off and die. I feel that Bono and Geldof's work has done a lot. I suggest everyone check out the ONE Campaign. It's first about awareness and getting people involved, and then comes the do-good.

Second, the band's (U2) tix aren't really yhat high, unless you go thru a ticket broker (and they often block-buy tix as soon as they go on sale), and the band has taken measures to prevent this from happening, as many bands have. And personally, I think that if you look deep into U2's vast catalogue, you'll find at least one single song you'll like (and not just the radio singles). And besides, their concerts are a lot better than the Stones, I'm sure...ZOOTV, PopMart...come on

I like Bob Geldof - I can buy him doign what he does, even if he has hideous taste in the names of his children (Peaches, anyone? It's one step from there to 'Pineapple'). But there's something 'CHECK OUT MY COCK!' about Bono. He seems to think he's god, or a saint or something.

Edit: I wasn't aware Bono got the governments to renounce the 3rd world debt.

Bill Gates has the clout, Bono's got the voice...well, we'll see.
