Seriously. Granted, I've only seen him in the Potter films, but those really haven't given the indication that he possesses the range to play Alan. That takes an incredible investment in the character. His underage nakedness aside, I'd like to see this to see if he can do it.

It's about this kid who's got these emotional problems. Strange instances from his youth. He's in a mental institution due to this really intense crime he did. This doctor is trying to figure out what's wrong with him and it turns out the kid has this fetish. A really gnarley one at that.

There are parts where the actor has to be completely insane, like frightening insane, not comical insane.

It's a pretty tough role.

Plus you have to get naked with a girl.

The highs and lows that the actor has to achieve in such rapid succession is incredible. It takes a lot of stamina - we did it my freshman year in college, and the entire cast was just exhausted after every performance.

Yeah, Equus is kind of a big deal. For you non-theatrey people, you might consider it akin to playing, say, Blanche DuBois or a Antigone. To give you a sense of the caliber of people cast in productions of Equus, Anthony Hopkins was playing the doctor in the Broadway version.

Equus could give Radcliffe serious artistic credibility.

No sane person says, "Hey, I think I'll do Equus on the West End. Get a little naked, meet some chicks. It'll be a lark." That's like saying, "Hey, I think I'll go play Hamlet at Stratford."

it could do, for the people who actually get to see it. i think that it will only be on a limited run because of his harry potter commitments and it's only going to be in london, so i think for him to get 'artistic credibility' he will need to maybe do a few more plays and maybe make some more films. it's still a brave move, i just fear for all the silly 13 year old girls who buy tickets to see harry potter naked then get such an intense and psychological play.
