While definitely not wanting to step on the toes of fellow SG Culture Editor and tattoo expert Marisa_DiMattia, I must share the following link. I've been thinking about how great it would be if someone had a website cataloging funny tattoos ever since one of my best friends showed up at my house with a Christmas tree on her arm.
Bad tattoos pretty much needs no explanation. Some are random, some are hilarious, some are disgusting, but all are showcased there for a look and maybe a chuckle.
Photo Location. Clockwise: carrot tattoo on toe, lucky charms full back tattoo, scary clown on shoulder
Hat tip to Meathaus for the link. Clown hat tip to the weirdos who got these.
I personally think websites making fun of peoples' tattoos are lame.
Sure, ther's some dumb ones, but people have reasons for getting their tattoos and it's no one's place to make fun of them.
And I'm with roethke, that tattoo rocks.
And I like the carrot on that person's toe, dammit!
Admitedly, there is some awful work on that site, I mean tattoos that are just badly done. I don't think it's funny to mock peoples tattoos for what they're of though, that's just shitty.
There's at least one thread on SG right now making fun of people's clothing choices, and I don't see how a choice being more permanent preotects it from ridicule.
of course it's cool to make fun of people's shitty tattoos. they inevitably end up sucking when people try to make them "mean" things, and all the deep meaning just makes them more hilarious. insulting shitting tattoos will hopefully discourage people with no taste from attaching tacky-ass pictures permanently to their body and maybe just buying them in commemorative plate form from the home shopping network.
A "bad" tattoo is kinda subjective. Maybe some should put a bit more time into determining what they want, but than again a "I did it because I felt like ..." is the expression that makes body mods so personal.
IMO the only "bad" tattoo is one that lacks originality or creativity, like Nike swooshes and other things commercial, they make me cry. That's just my perception though.
The pointless bitchiness would be a little more acceptable if the commentary was funny. As it is it's repetitive with a smattering of awkward homophobia and vague racism.
The creator of those galleries also appears to have nine pages featuring screen-caps of "My WoW character standing near a tree", so we can only temper our judgement with pity.
