Dane Cook is a huge asshole.

(I posted this on my blog, but nobody reads that.)

See, apparently Dane was in Vancouver, and he decided to give a little surprise performance at a local comedy club called Yuk Yuk's. He called the manager, who informed him that they already had somebody lined up, but that Cook was welcome to do a bit after the scheduled comic.

But that wasn't good enough for Dane. He wanted to go on before the scheduled comic. So the manager said okay, but you have to keep it under 30 minutes.

So Dane shows up at this place and launches into his idiotic fratboy humor routine. He blows through thirty minutes, paying no heed to the "wind it up" light flashing for five minutes. In an effort to indicate that it's time for Dane to STFU, they start playing music and they cut off his mike.

Dane, of course, gets all pissed off. So they give him five more minutes, and then turn the mike back on. So Dane sticks his head around the curtain, I guess to ask what the hell is going on, and then just drops his mike and walks off stage.

And the ironic part is, a bunch of douchebags are all angry that Dane didn't get to do his thing all night.

How fucking conceited can you get? I mean, he cold-calls the club and asks if he could perform that night, even though they'e already got somebody lined up. Then he decides that since he's Dane Cook, and therefore equivalent to God, that he should perform before the scheduled comic just because he wants to. Then he throws a hissy fit when they tell him to get off the stage when his agreed-upon time is up.

What a bunch of fucking bullshit.

here is another account. im just curious where you got the conversation between dane cook and the manager of the club. it seems a little slanted. of course i find dane cook as annoying as the next person.

oh well they were probably listening on the other line when the manager of yuk yuks was really hesitant to bump the legendary mike cliff to make room for dane cook.

Originally scheduled to go on for 45 minutes following an abbreviated set by scheduled headliner Peter Kelamis, Cook showed up and requested to go on early, before Kelamis. The club agreed, on condition that he shorten his set to 20 to 30 minutes."

anyway, i cant believe the audience would rather see dane cook than "bartender" from 'best in show' (scenes deleted).

i think he is hilarious, but there is no need for that type of behavior, shall we call him a diva then?

It's not surprising. Most comedians are pretty horrible, self-loathing people...unlike Dane Cook, some of them are funny.

I saw part of his Tourgasm show last night. The group was playing paintball when Cook got the flag and went charging back towards his side of the flag. As he runs through a doorway one of his friends from the other team reflex shoots him from about five feet away. Cook proceeds to flip out and go off about how it was an illegal shot because the guy was too close, and the guy basically just tucks his tail and apologizes. Now, while the shot was technically illegal, Cook was making no attempt what so ever to cover his movements, he was just running and startled the guy, so the guy nailed him automatically. Basically Cook was being a dork, ignoring his surroundings, and got shot flat footed. And then bitched about it, for twenty minutes, when the guy immediately apologized and offered to call himself dead and let Cook go back into the game.

In light of this evidence, I am comfortable saying that Dane Cook is a prick.

ok - on stage Dane - is freakin hilarious
offstage - I don't know him.
I mean, no one's the nicest person when the public gets ahold of them. You can'tobserve him 24/7.
As the link said - he had had 45 minutes, he was upset he didn't get the full 45. I'm guessing he had somewhere to be and couldn't do it after.
As for the paintball - the man's competative - he got into the heat of the moment, and was upset. Yea, its a little immuture - buuuutttt - watch a sports game sometime, you'll see arguing.

i love the fact that Tourgasm, Dane's big TV show, is just exposing him as the colossal douchebag he really is. the man unapologetically rips off jokes from better comedians, has basically no friends in the comedy community, obviously acts like a spoiled child when things don't go his way....

and people still feel the need to defend him because screaming and flailing equals teh funneh.

as a comedy geek (and a very harsh critic of everything), i am amused and delighted.

Dane Cook a prick?!? ~gasp~ Why the hell would the audience be pissed? He'll be telling those same jokes for at least 2 years.
