Don't got to the Hermosa Pier! That place fucking sucks! But in Hermosa Beach there's a place called the Saloon. It's not so bad. It's kinda small but every now and then they have a live band.

In Torrance there's a bar called The Crest. I can't remember which street it's off of, but it's a cool little dive. I think they let you smoke inside too. Same with the aforementioned Saloon.

In Culver City I hit up the Cozy Inn across from Sony Picture Studios. Again, indoor smoking but that place has suffered a total yuppie invasion in the past year. I'm not exactly sure what sparked it.

Where do you usually go?

I went to a bar called Footsie's when I was out there this weekend. Kinda dive-y, with good music.

Saraphine, you just got billions of points in my book, that's one of my favorite places in town...

Cheshire, sounds like you've already got your favorite spots and don't need much in the way of advice or suggestions...

I spend the majority of my time these days in the underground art/music scene...

Then I'll have to suggest the far less creepy route of checking the boards for open SGLA events, then go meet up with people and get to know them. As opposed to soliciting the names of places to hang out, then hitting those places up in hopes of running into people from the site as if it were some random occurence. SexyBeast's post had a link...

Whitehorse is a cool little bar. We should be meeting up again on Feb. 16. I've gone the past three times, since my first time there, I've met over 20 people from SG and made off-line friends with some of them.

if you're going to go to a bar in hermosa, the best place to go is the pitcher house. you gotta love a place with saw dust on the floor. as far as torrance...the zebra room on hawthorne blvd is the place to be. cheap drinks and silly karaoke.
ARRR!!!

Pitcher House = bad memories, but you're right. All things considered, that place is really good. I'm not familiar with the Zebra Room, what is it next to?

The one bar to rule them all happens to be the Slappy Cock in Amberg/Sulzbach in Deutschland. I want to start my own Slappy Cock in LA. Same floorplan and everything. biggrin

I rather like the Powerhouse and also recommend it. One of the few places that has Pabst on tap. If you're like me you'll probably go for months before you figure out it's a gay bar.
