Okay people, I need stuff.

I am about to spend 6 weeks in Toronto, the longest stop I have had in 13 months.

I need a good dive bar, I need clubs, I need good food, I need wisdom of Toronto. What better people to ask?

Who's gonna help a guy out?!?!

That all sounds a bit needy, huh?

Let's talk Toronto sounds like a news anchor's opening catchphrase.

"Bringing you all the news in Toronto and nearby regions, this is Toronto Tonight. I'm your anchor, Brick McClusky... let's talk Toronto."

Ok for bars go to Woody's and Sailor or the Black Eagle... if you want people to buy you a drink or two. tongue

Umm... can't really help with any suggestions Vatikan, Savage Garden and the Velvet Underground are the only Clubs/Bars I know in Toronto All have various things going on depending on the night.

Toronto is a fairly easy city to deal with.. just start wondering around.. if you get lost just find the subway and you'll be fine.

Stay out Mississauga, Etobicoke and Oakville, Only go to North York by accident, And then really only if you are looking for Pagans, Crazy people, or Buddists.

the Royal Ontario Museum isn't a bad way to kill a day.
Ontario Art Gallery is usually good too

if you have female company comeing with you (or i you like shoes) there is a Shoe Museum.

Wonderland and Ontario Place I'm guessing is closed by now..

though Fort York might be still open which might be work a look if you like history.

Might want to check out tickmaster for Toronto and see if any concerts are happening..

if you like Classical stuff, the Ballet, Opera or Symphony will most likely have something going on .

there are several Musicals and Plays going on at any given time. (though don't ask me what they are)

that might help more then my rambling on and on

My favourite TO dive bar used to be the Gladstone.

Also, check out Toronto.Com.

For tattoo shops, go see Jay Dekator @ Passage on Church St.
SG member dekator. If you want to take a day trip out to my rural neck of the woods, VonScotch has a killer little shop out here too.

Eat at Squirrely's. Eat at Sushi Time for cheap sushi. Eat at the Friendly Thai. Eat at Babur. At least, those are the places I always eat.

Thanks so much. I was hoping someone would recommend Thai and sushi.

I hope to see either Jay or maybe even Scott while I'm there. I hope one of them has some time.

I owe you something shiney! smile

Good food lately has been Utopia for a stopover...fun part of town, too. College and Christie, basically...little Italy.

My favourite dive bars ended up being the Bovine Sex Club and Sneaky Dee's, but mostly because I was too drunk to notice where I was. C'est la vie!

Oooh. The King Eddy. How absolutely posh. wink

Hmm, let's see. Some of my favourite haunts here in my hometown include, but are not limited to:

The Brunswick House -- two blocks from my old high school; used to be a great dive-like bar but, they renovated and are all, like, nice and stuff now.

The Madison -- a great pub located in two converted townhouses. Bloor and Spadina is the major intersection.

Blowfish -- *amazing* sushi, but pricey. Still, it's just SO tasty. King & Bathurst.

Tortilla Flats -- come on Torontonians; y'all know about Tortilla Flats on Queen West. smile

There you have it. Just to name a few restaurants. I love the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Ontario Science Centre, too!

Have fun in the best Canadian city! biggrin

Edit - Just read that you like Thai and sushi; try Bloor St, between Bathurst and Spadina (known locally as the Annex). There are, no exaggeration, ten million sushi and Thai places on that strip of road. smile

My favourite little known fact about Toronto is that it has the third largest amount of English speaking live theatre in the world (behond New York and London). In addition to the Lord of the Rings, you may want to see if any tickets are available for any of Soulpepper's shows (one of the premier troupes in the city).

Thank you so much for the info, but I am in town with a Broadway show, so the Soulpepper shows are a bit out of the question for me.

Thanks anyway!

There is sweet indepedant music going down and super cheap beer at The Bagel 285 College, near spadina. Total chilled dive. Across the street is Rancho Relaxo, another great mexian joint. Sphinx was dead on with the Michales assessment, cool cheap little dive. Sneaky Dee's is excellent as well.
