I did a search and didn't see anything relevant, so forgive me if this post has been done before. I would've though somebody'd done this before, but apparently not. Aaaaaanyway...

My friends and I are in the beginning stages of planning a road trip to Canada over Christmas break this year. We have absolutely nothing planned yet. It's looking like Toronto's the place to be, proximity-wise. So basically, I'm looking for tips on how to make this as fun and painless as possible. Where to go, what to do, what to avoid, things of this nature. Thank you, kind neighbors to the north!

Uhhh...But we're driving. And that's another 1500 miles. Which would make it 4 times as far. No thanks.

I's just kidding.
I lived in Toronto for years.
I'll look back later and throw in some suggestions if the locals haven't already thought of em.
Toronto's a great city you'll love it.

touristy things include visiting the CN tower and going to the theatre (believe it or not, Toronto is second only to New York on the continent for number of broadway style shows). Many residents visit the harbourfront and Toronto island for pleasant weekend hanging out and stuff. For nightclubs etc., most of the huge ones are along King or Adelaide streets near spadina. Shopping can be done at the Eatons centre (yonge & Queen) or for slightly trendier stuff visit Queen St. West.

The CN Tower is clearly something you need to do at least once. It's a bit expensive though (aprox $20 per person)

My excursions to Toronto has usually included checking out stuff on Queen St, China town, Kensington Market, going to a convention on Front St, and seeing friends in plays. The harbour front is nice. There is a large outdoor skating rink in front of city hall.

You should try to find out a list of events happening around the city that you could check out when you visit.

Looks like the consensus is Toronto but check out Windsor. It's got the best view of Detroit,it's good for a day trip.

So so true.

And according to my quick internet research it's about the same driving distance from Philly.

If someone drives to Montreal from Philly and brings me an authentic Philly cheese steak (but the kind with real cheese not the kind with Cheez Whiz) I will take them out for the best Montreal poutine.

Ok, you're right. It's actually a little bit closer. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO FUCKING MONTREAL! Jesus!

My friend wants to see niagra falls, and going to Toronto puts us in good position to do that.

There is tonnes to do in TO depending on what you feel like or what appeals to you. I visit Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal every year at xmas as I have family there. There is a leafs game on the 26th of December at Air Canada Center. You can skate for free at city hall, they have a huge fountain that they freeze over in the winter and let everyone skate on. You can go to the Hockey Hall of Fame. There is shopping on Young Street. You can always check out Much Music, the Canadian equivalent of MTV, they are often broadcasting live from their building which is right downtown. The restaurants, clubs and bars are endless and not hard to find. There is an Irish pub named Fionn McCools that is decent and has live bands on the weekends, just down from there is the Esplenade bier Market. They have about 200 or so different beers from around the world, many served on tap and all are served in the proper sized glass and at the proper temperature. They have food as well. It's all really a matter of what you like or prefer. Your best bet is to ask a local as to what is popular and whats going on where and when. Not living there for 3 years I would hate to recommend too much and say what is cool and have it suck ass now. Most people are friendly and will be more than happy to help out and offer suggestions. Outside of the Toronto area there is a Dave and Busters which is like a huge arcade more geared towards adults. There is one in Philly though so you can always do crap like that at home if it appeals to you. Hope this helps you out some. If your in a real bind or want more ideas or info let me know. The possibilities are endless.

The best thing to do in Toronto? By yourself a TTC (transit) daypass, hop on a streetcar, and explore. They trundle back and forth and up and down the downtown and midtown areas. With a daypass, you can hop on and off whenever you see something cool.

Toronto is a great place to wander; full of little hidden gems.

You really think Quebec city is a place to go? I'd say if you find yourself there, you'll ruin your trip. Stick to Toronto really

See... this man knows what he's talking about.

Now and Eye usually have pretty good listings of what is going on.
