Hi!

I'm a recent college graduate (BA in math) with no job and low expectations. I have experience in retail, laboratory work, advertising, teaching and was a personal assistant for a guy who made the weirdest requests (find me enough balloons to fill a 6000 square foot room to eye level by Monday). In addition to being able to deal with customers, work a cash register, operate the ACAS Ultima argon laser microscope, be patient with people who don't understand the difference between injective and surjective and then showing them the light, and do really really odd jobs, I'm a really fast learner. I can learn most things in two weeks and anything (within reason) in a month. I can also do the moonwalk.

What do you guys have for me?

Friday.

And I've tried getting jobs with hospitals. Apparently I don't have the right kind of lab experience, nor enough of it.

Try brilliantpeople.com. They're a large, national recruiting firm and I know that there are at least a few reps who do placements in science if that's your main interest. If you see a type of job you're really interested in contact the recruiter even if the opportunity is not in your area. These people have contacts all over the place and can keep your info on file until the right thing pops up. In the meantime, you may be able to start working temp or temp to perm jobs locally if that appeals to you. For those opportunities contact the local office.

There's always Dialysis Tech. If you don't mind sticking people with fifteen gauge needles, sick elderly people, death, and etc. They train you.

The balloons to fill a 6000 square foot room to eye level was it from the floor to the eye or ceiling down to eye?

Try temping as an admin to an executive. It gives you the opportunity to see a variety of different companies and business. You have a great skill set.

I would hire you if you wanted to deliver transmission parts, that is all i have open.
My customers would love you (because you are beautiful) but they are greasy mechanics and you might not like them.

There is currently a position open with the title of "My Bitch". The pay is low, however the fringe benefits are high, such as being able to tell everyone that you are "my bitch", getting to hold my hand again @ roller skating rinks, and getting to call me tabitha in person. If interested, please send one dollar, one block of tofu, and a SASE to me.

Edited to add other fringe benefits..

Wanna play video games for a living? tongue

Its not really reliable work, not for a long period of time, but Ive done/am doing software testing at either Nintendo, or Microsoft. The downside is, its all contract work(usally around 2-3 months at a time, for one project), but if you're good, they tend to rehire for subsequent stuff. Its pretty likely that I could get someone like yourself a job at either place, thought I dont currently work for Nintendo.

The really nice thing, is that no one cares about tattoos/piercings/ect at either place. That, and you're a girl(which these places are lacking in), so in the interest of equal opportunity, most girls get hired.

Its not a career, and it doesnt pay great($10-12/hr), but hey, you *are* getting paid to be a geek. I love it, and wouldnt trade it for anything. biggrin

Actually, I'm thinking of going to mechanic school after I save up some money with the job one of you guys is going to give me. You guys are going to find me a job, right? I tried to take auto shop in high school but they'd never let me in. So I took all sorts of science and like, honors english and ended up going to a school that gave me a worthless, though expensive, degree instead of getting a real job. It's a tie between mechanic school and beauty school.

It was going to take about 3000 balloons. Then he decided he didn't want them because it was going to be too expensive.

I have to go eat a chili dog now. Thanks for trying, everyone.
