I'm from jersey too!
A few things about our state that I like, some of which I didn't even know were exclusive to our state.
-NYC and Philly, as previously mentioned.
-Cheesesteaks. Other states have 'em, but if you're not within 50 miles of Philly, then you don't know what you're missing.
-Wawa. A chain of convenience stores like 7-11 but nicer. With a deli that serves yummy sammiches.
-The dirtiest beaches outside of 3 mile island! Oh wait, that's bad.
-Tastykakes. Specifically the tasty-klair pie.
-24 hour Diners, no less than 3 within any given 20 mile radius.
-Gas station attendants. You don't have to pump your own! In fact you're not allowed to.
-The worst car insurance prices in the world! Oh wait, that's bad.
-Everything is close enough to drive in less than 15 minutes, but far enough that you don't have to hear it when you're trying to sleep. Nothing is too close or too far away. You usually have your choice of which mall, grocery store, etc. that you want to go to today.
-You can turn right at red lights. Can you do that in other states? I really don't know.
-You can never turn left at most big intersections. You have to turn right onto a "jughandle" and loop all the way around. Oh wait, that's bad.

So I guess to sum it up it's not the hellhole everybody makes it out to be. If our country was a joke, this state would be the punchline. But still, I kinda like some things about it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, road rage. It's as bad here as in LA or NYC. Even in the suburbs. You'll be cruising at 25 in a residential development and some psycho in a SUV will still find you and tailgate the shit out of you.

I'm ecstatic.....we're finally doing some real work against corruption. After "See No Evil" Harvey and "I'm only here for a cup of coffee" Rabner...it's great to see the team of Chris Christie and Anne Milgram producing some results. Cory Booker deserves some of the credit too. He's been a pretty good public servant after following one of the most corrupt mayors in NJ History; Mayor-For-Life Sharpe James.

I only hope that Chris Christie doesn't suffer the effects of being a Republican candidate in a Democratic state...because clearly....he's a better choice than that fuck-face Corzine.

Despite the headlines, there are some good honest-to-jesus public servants working in NJ. Steven Fulop being my current favorite, I'm wondering how the arrests of half of the Jersey City Council & Council President will affect his legislative efforts. Booker's decent, too. And unless he gets caught blowing a tranny hooker in the rest stop that used to be named after Howard Stern (another point of pride for your fine state), Christie is a shoe-in in November.

All that said, almost exactly five years after the first time I shit on Jersey in this thread, I'm still glad I live on the other side of the river. If I drink enough Yuengling I can piss on NJ from my house. I hate NJ more than I hate Southern California, & I despised living in Southern California. Maybe its me?

I wouldn't say that, exactly. 46% of voters polled are still undecided, and historically NJ democratic gubernatorial candidates tend to poll behind early and make up ground as the election grows closer.

Christie is polling ahead by around 7-8 points, a good lead but nowhere near the 13 point lead he had after he won the GOP primary.

Also, a republican hasn't won a statewide election in NJ since 1997.

Chrisite's positions include:

Stiff anti-abortion restrictions, including a 24 hour waiting period, parental notification and a ban on what he calls partial birth abortions
cutting corporate taxes,
removing mandated minimum heath insurance coverage levels for companies selling policies in the state,
opposing gun control
and cutting staff at the DEP while stripping them of some oversight duties.

A lot of this stuff is unpopular among the bulk of NJ's electorate, so it remains to be seen whether Chrisite's anticorruption record will matter more to voters than his pro-life, anti-gun control, corporation-friendly positions.

If Corzine gets those positions into the spotlight and keeps them there, it'll be a much closer race than it looks now.
