I've had applications pending to all the regional groups for the areas I visit, and have yet to be "accepted", I'm sure other people have the same issue, so why not allow the topic threads to exist for those who can't gain access to the groups?

Did you actually read the read this before posting thread? It explains why.

Do the regional groups have a minimum posting/blog/site activity requirement? Have you messaged the group owners (respectfully)? Maybe you just need to explain why you want to be in the group. smile

Because all that ever happens is "Anyone from _____" threads is years of useless "I am from here" replies and then the entire forum gets overrun with a million threads for every city/state/country/island etc... rendering the entire forum useless.

Similarly I often go out in real life and ask "Is anyone from Suicidegirls.com?" and get shut down.

Yes ma'am, I meet all requirements. No ma'am, seems kinda pathetic to beg for membership.

There's a difference in following up on a pending membership and begging to be let in.

I've never been any good at distinguishing between minutely different nuances of essentially, the same thing.

All private groups I have applied to, I have also messaged the owner with a brief statement of why I want to join their group. Not only does it gain favor with the owner that you are more serious about becoming a member, it also shows that you are more than a clicky happy person just applying to any group that will accept.
It also helps to become friends with members of that group who can vouch for you. Groups are very protective of their members and want to make sure that everyone feels safe and secure at public gatherings.

yeah, quite often they either specify you have to PM the owner or they kind of expect it. Or they may have a vouch system, they take time.

As a regional group owner, I wouldn't let anyone in my group whose location was listed as USA, unless they messaged me telling me their actual location or reason why they wanted to join.

You've been here 3 years, but only have 39 comments and 2 friends, so no sir, you don't.

As it so happens, I am recently (essentially) divorced and lost the majority of my "family & friends" in the process. Consequently, I find myself trying to build a new life from what little outside interests that I have. So, no the majority of the time I've been a member, I had no time for new people, my dance card was full, my cup runeth over, etc... Now I find myself lonely most of the time, and will probably remain that way 'till I can make some new friends. It's like moving to a new city, or living in a bubble for 15 years.

Well, it seemed logical as I spend so much of my time in SF. In fact bar hopping tonight for a girlfriends birthday.

Nice selective editing. But I see your point. It's been a rough year.

Nah, not really. I was mostly being a smartass because Antichrist has had several threads closed by the owner of SGSF, who is also a mod. But he is a man of great mystery and I cannot know who he will and won't let into our prestigious club!

No one is asking for an explanation on why you comment so little. You can comment as much or as little as you want. However, your blogs and comment history and friends list are the only thing group owners have to figure out whether or not you might be a creepy weirdo. I'm sure you understand why that's particularly important in a regional group.
