Well at least good places to eat and a few places to check out. I'm heading to Montreal next week for the Ultimate Fighting Championship event in town and I'll have a little bit of free time to see the city, so I want to know where I should go? Where should we eat? That kind of thing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Fuck, there is so much to do.

Head down to Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal), pretty cool, lots of tours and such but you can easily just walk around on your own.

The Biodome is also pretty much amazing. Different rooms of animals and such in varying ecospheres.

Quite a few good restaurants all over the city; Aux Vivres is a trendy vegetarian cafeish place on St. Laurent if you are into that kind of thing. Tons more restaurants otherwise, what kind of food do you like?

The Notre-Dame Basilica is something people always seem to check out as well. There are great Art museums (Beaux-Arts, Contemporain, etc etc) that have some really interesting exhibits at the moment.

If you don't have a car (and you don't need one), grab a week-long Metro pass (Carte Hebdo) to save a lot of money, otherwise its 2.75 each time you go in. The Metro isn't open super late like NYC either, so check out a schedule if need be.

I'm forgetting lots. Good luck!

I hear there's a pretty awesome male strip club if you're into that sort of thing (or maybe they have an amateur night) biggrin

Club 281!

You have to go there to get your passport stamped by the Canadian authorities. No joke.

Go eat at Au Pied du Cochon. Best restaurant in the city. Corner Duluth & St. Hubert.

Don't do it. Six months down the road, you'll be sitting in your house salivating at the thought of a large poutine, and the closest place to get decent poutine is 8 hours away! tongue

(I have multiple cans of St. Hubert's poutine sauce in my cabinent that I've brought back from Canada, but I still can't get goods curds here.)

He's from NJ where we've bastardized poutine into french fries with gravy and kraft singles.

So is PBR, but people in NJ treat it like it is liquid gold.

I tried poutine when I was in Montreal and I can say that it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest thing I've ever had either. I guess I should preface that statement by saying that I'm not a big fan of gravy in any way shape or form, so that probably didn't help.

You've already been given a lot of good advice of where you should go while visiting Montreal so if I was you I would take a lot of it into consideration while visiting.

Montreal is actually a really big city with a lot of hidden treasures. I've lived here all my life and I'm still finding new interesting places to go. Old Montreal is a beautiful place to go, a lot of old buildings and history to see. You also have the science museum and IMAX theater near the water and normally there's massive ships docked by the water which are really cool to see.

St.Laurent is a street downtown where there are sooo many places to go, no matter what kind of party style you like you are sure to find some where you'll like to party downtown. One of my favorite places to go is foufs. St-Sulplice is also really great, baisically a mansion turned into a HUGE bar, 3 floors high, tons and tons of different areas to go in the bar and one of the biggest terasses you will see. The metro does not run all night as previously mentioned, neither do all the busses. But the 356 bus is a godsend depending on what part of Montreal you're staying in. Check the STM website for bus routes and such: www.stm.info

If you get tired of the city life you can always take a trip to the lakeshore. Lachine and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue have many little restaurents and cafes along the lakeshore and even bars for the evening.

And if you want some reall good poutine La Belle Province is where you have to go. Cheap but oh so good smile Other foods you must have while hear are beaver tails and frite alors

enjoy your visit! smile
