I've been driving up Route 1 from Monterey a lot lately and it's so cool to see the San Gregorio fault lines in the hills. You can totally see where the earth is ripping apart right there!

Woohoo...yes we are on the move and isn't it exciting!

When I tell people from out of state that I get a huge rush when we have an earthquake, they look at me like I'm insane. I just point out that they get tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, months of snow, whatever ... I'd rather have earthquakes. biggrin

Isn't there some data pointing to the plate movement that SF and Seattle will be one city in like 10k years?

Hmmmm ... It kinda feels like you're standing on the back of an elephant with Parhinson's while it's being transported by semi on a windy road .. kinda.

And the elephant is car-sick. smile

I'm told the worst part for earthquake noobs is that they sub-consciously expect the Earth to be immobile and solid ... which it isn't. More than a bit of a shock. biggrin

well, the earthquakes you'll experience on a somewhat regular basis are uneventful. you're sitting there, and then suddenly you feel a little weird and the drapes shift around a little. then it stops. as for the really big ones, just don't live anywhere built on landfill and don't move into a brick building.

it's so true. i'll take a small probability of natural disaster over yearly natural disaster. anyway, the ground is floating no matter where you live, at least our buildings are prepared for it.

It's all shakey and all your Star Wars figures fall off the shelf. If you live in a really old building or live on landfill your house might fall down. The dog gets all upset and everyone calls from Minnesota to see if you're alright. You might get beat up if you wander into the wrong neighborhood, but that can happen anyway. Lots of people go to bars and sit in the dark if the power is out. You might be able to console some hot looking chick from somewhere they don't have earthquakes.
Earthquakes are fun unless you live in a third world country or are driving on the bottom deck of a freeway. Or your house falls down.
