That's what I thought too...until I realized I could update it AND receive updates from my friends all via text message. Other than setting it up the first time, I really don't have to go to the website again. (I do anyway.)

Now I'm trying to recruit more friends to join. I try to sweeten the pot by telling them WilWheaton's on there. biggrin

I just like the idea of microblogging. There's tons of things I think about in a day that will never make it into a journal entry, so they get dumped on there.

I've switched back to using my custom Twitter badge and fixed it up a bit. If you'd like to try it out, here is a ZIP file of the empty image, fonts, and PHP script I used.

Twitter is a fun thing to simply keep in touch with people, sharing That One Thought you have no one to tell on the moment.

Did you read the rest of this thread? After signing up you don't ever have to go to the Twitter website...ever. Most people don't.

Friends of mine are on twitter and it makes me think less of them. Doesn't anyone like a little bit of mystery any more? Do you really want everyone to realise how boring your life really is? Am I the only one who thinks this whole stream of consciousness microblogging thing is utter crap? I'm a history teacher so I'm used to reading a lot of boring, dry crap but even I draw the line at reading about every single little thing people are doing in their mundane lives. puke

Again, I don;t understand this thing at all... why do I need to text an international number to get my phone to work with this?

Do I really need to be updated everytime someone goes to work/home?

I'm sure AceT can write at least three paragraphs touting the benefits but 'm just not getting it.

Maybe I'm officially old and out of touch.

Leah Culver suggested "social messaging" at the Future of Web Apps in Miami. Because she's hot, I say we go with her suggestion.

I never had to do that to get it to work from my phone [I have a Sidekick and all I did was type in the site and log in]

And I never had to do that at sign up, sorry I can't really help you.
