I'm not quite sure what you're refering to, but I don't feel like poltics are forced on anyone.

But, at the same time, it is a community. And I think a lot of us here are here for more than just the girls. We have a lot of like-minded opinions, + at the same time we're willing to debate.

(of course, the girls come first.)

So, before I get flamed, what politics?

I thought it was interesting-- and I didn't feel it was being forced upon me at all. Perhaps it's something Spooky feels extremely strongly about, and after all, it is his (shared--of course) site.

It didn't bother me is basically what I was trying to say there... of course, that's just this girl's opinion.

Okay, I see what it is we're talking about. Yeah, it's an opinion. And, technically, it's attributed to one person, and not the opinions of the Suicide Girls dot com.

I may or may not agree with the opinions, but I'm glad to see that this site isn't all about just anonymous tits and actually has a thinking, throbbing brain.

I agree with what everyone has said so far...the political commentary adds personality to this site that other sites in the same "business" as SG don't have. While i know that there are probably lots of people who are only members to go check out naked girls, we don't want that to become the only thing the site is about.

So, adding intellegent commentary/discussion is a good good thing.

I tend to put political stuff on the fornt page every once in a very long while. I think the last one I put up was the one about ashcroft paying $8000 to buy a curtain to cover up a nude neoclassical statue in a justice dept building because he found a statue of a nude woman offensive.

This one I put up because I think it's kind of sad that we consider a country that treats women as property (amongst other offensive policies and practices) a friend to us. But you know, I'm very controversial like that.

I also have linked to: funny cartoons, cool online art projects, new software, an apple mp3 player when it came out, cool sites, events, performances by member bands and all kinds of weird stuff. If you don't want to be pointed to non naked girl things, don't read the updates column, just look at the far right column under the sg logo, which will always have the 5 most recent pieces of media updated to the site.

But if you guys just want the front page blog to be a pointer to the sets, I don't really care. I just thought some of you might be interested in the article, I was.

I have to say that I was extremely excited to see that link on the front page. The site is counter-culture by its very nature (defying that porn sites have to be the same old exploitative bullshit), and I was delighted to explore that even further without having to dig into the boards. just one boy's opinion...

I love it spookypoo- good on you. This is a site run by REAL PEOPLE with REAL OPINIONS, not a corporate board thats adverse to risk. That's why we are all here, right? Naked women with soul- punk as they wanna be. Put it out there and wave it in the wind, know what I mean? Spooks, yer nooooo different. We wanna see you pull it out and .... wait. No we don't. Nevermind.

*blush*

p.s. sometimes i don't care to hear anyone's opinions. but then, it'd really suck to not hear them when i want to or to be oblivous to the fact that there are different opinions.

i don't understand why you think its forced on you. he writes a few words in a little box with some links, when there are a ton of other things on the page that are vying for your attention as well. you can ignore it. if it was emailed to you or posted on your member page, i'd think different.

i am very interested in politics, but half the time i don't even look at the links spooky puts up. i'm here for the girls and the conversation, and i get my politics elsewhere. but i'm not offended, and i think its great that this site (which is controversial in its own right) throws politics into the mix.

i'm going to side with spooky on this -

i know it's something he feels really strongly about, and i know i would not have read those articles if he hadn't posted the links and thus i am grateful for what he did.

i too don't understand the "forced upon" feeling - his blog was political, but it was also a bit non-specific - i felt that i had to link to the articles to completely understand what he was talking about. i felt that delving deeply into the issue was purely voluntary.

i know too that most of us view spooky as almost a diety on this site - and i know that's precisely the reason i hardly ever read his journal. i just don't think to do it. i'd feel weird adding him to my friends list (sorry spooks) cause i know i barely know him, and as a result, with all the rest of the stuff that i'm doing while surfing around the site it rarely crosses my mind to go check out what he has to say.

how many of you read his journal?

if you have a point you'd like to be made public, what better way to do it?

we all know how the political threads end up whatever

I approve of poltics and series issues on the front page. In fact, I'd like more of it. It would make a nice segue between my daily stops at salon.com and suicidegirls.com.

Salon is so '98, try instapundit instead for a week and you'll never go back. smile

I can understand what Amy is saying. I was suprised to read it on the front page, but I figured that that is Spooky's forum and that this must be somthing that really bothered him.

I understand what Amy's saying, too. She's not saying the links are a big deal or anything, but I was just as taken back to see something like that on the front page. I didn't dwell on it, but it looked out of place to me.

If they offend you then just bookmark the main message board page.
I don't see where anything is being forced upon anyone. Forced would be onenter big popups. Forced would be auto redirects.
This goes along with my feelings on anything people are offended by...if you don't like how it sounds - turn off the radio, if you don't like what you see on TV - turn the channel, if you don't like the links on a website - don't click on them.
Personally, I love the links Spooky provides. I love the fact that they are there. These sentiments have been well summed up by Phaedra and others. I would be sad to see them go.

that is the main thing i ever have a problem w/ at 'leisure' sites...i want the option of not seeing what i'm bombarded with in some way everyday. but then, i can overlook it too. just would hate for something that could offend me to sour me on something that i like to go to, to get away from everyday stuff. i could avoid that thread, and i did. so i agree with amy on that point, but i don't think i ever want to become thin-skinned to things, so my stance will always be that people can say whtever they want.

Yeah, i was just about to say. No one is being forced to do anything here.

It's like the people who sue for sexual harrassment because they see a comic they don't like or something no their co-workers desk. They weren't forced to see it, or forced to have their morals offended in some way.

I say, if you see a link to something political and you're not interested, don't click it and just go look at the sets. It's THAT easy.

no shit. but, that's not my point. :p

i read the front page all the time......that's my point.
i hate to read such heavy things before i go to look at the movies and pictures. political blogs tend to sour the whole sg experience. let it be the choice of the member to go to the boards or not....politics always have a negitive effect on people.
i'm really finished now. biggrin

Here's a little suggestion for you: If you don't want to see links to other places, dont read the front page blog, read the "recent" column on the far left. It is the same thing, but with only picture sets.

smile

I really didn't think it was that heavy.

I thought, awww...that Spooky has a good head on his shoulders. I love him.

I didn't go to find out more that time, but I often do. I would go so far as to say that that's what I LOOK for when going to the front page.

dunno. i was a bit disappointed that spooky took a daily news article as a reliable source instead of seeing it as the fucking tabloid piece of garbage it is. the politics were reactionary and relatively uninformed (don't get me wrong, i ain't a bush fan by any stretch of the imagination, and i'm not a great proponent of the saudi government, there's just more to the issue), but i didn't object to them being in a visible place on the site. at least it opens us up to discussions of things that are going on, and in general, that's a good thing.

How was the story uninformed? What more is there to the issue?
