Hey folks,

There have been a bunch of complaints about the speed of the new site. When we launched the beta, we had hoped to knock out most of the performance problems, but of course you can never predict how it's going to run when everyone is using it.

While the new site is running much better than it could be under the circumstances, we're bringing in some new server hardware in about a week. Once we get it up and running, things will be much, much faster. So hang in there.

(Of course, if you're on dial-up or if your computer is ancient, we cannot lessen your pain.)

Weird. I almost never have speed problems. Most pages open within a second. Sometimes it's like five, but that's only if I'm opening a bunch of stuff at once or it's an aberration that corrects itself next time I open something.

the only thing that i've noticed which is slow-ish is the pop-ups over people's pics in comments and whatnot. other than that, the new site is awesome.

Good to hear. I have plenty of little complaints about the new site, but the speed is the only thing that I would have called a serious problem.

you fix the speed and I'll be a happy boy.

also, on my powerbook, the colour behind comments and topics are so light that they almost blend together. that I can live with. the slowness was driving me crazy.

The site itself seems to be running fine for me, but chat is slooooooooooooooooooooooooow. I know that the chat's flash API was developed by a third party, but please tell me that this is also being addressed.

if i'm viewing a set i often find that the thumbnail numbers get out of sync with the main pic which is lagging 4 or 5 images behind and jumps from -say- the first pic to the sixth.

It's usually OK speed. Not fast, but OK. Occassionally, certain types of pages will crap out/time out/etc. Typically, gallery browser launches take FOREVER to load (and maybe never), but the forums and member home pages seem to go OK. Seems like the pics are served from a different machine(s).

Amish computers are extremely slow, but very decorative. mine was crafted by hand from oak and the monitor is cherry.
