If you want rapid fire conversations, go to chat. You don't seem to have any problems with that service.

No, I don't.

But some of the people I have these conversations with don't use the chat. I also enjoy commenting in people's journals and having people comment in mine.

But this has nothing to do with my comment about the function of the site and everything to do with you being grumpy about chat so I don't care that much.

I see you are dismissing me now as easily as you dismiss other's comments about things they have problems with just because they don't affect you. I personally don't care if the journal comments are updated promptly, I'll read them when I get to them. I dont' use them for rapid rfire conversations, that's why I use chat. And it's causing me problems. I get this message every time I log into chat this evening, since the ads were activated.

zoom image

I only used to get it if I had been on for a long time. Plus, typing in chat has become extremely slow this evening. Even without a lot of people on.

Why is it ok for you to complain about the updating of the journal comments, but anyone else having problems with chat is dismissable because you personally don't have a problem?

I didn't say they weren't problems. I said the problems don't affect me. I'm sympathetic to the people who can't use chat properly. HOWEVER... it strikes me as incredibly stupid to complain to a technical staff that CAN NOT CHANGE THE FEATURE! Nobody seems to understand that.

If you have a problem with the way Userplane works, email the owners of the site with your complaints. Don't post in the bugs thread or complain that the staff aren't fixing the problem. It's not a bug to do with SG and the tech people can't change someone else's program.

The journal comments on the other hand are the product of a glitch WITHIN the site and should be handled by SG.

If SG is paying for an account, then something is wrong with that account if the ads are showing. Therefore, Userplane is unlikely to respond to requests from users as they are from the company holding the account.

If SG is not paying for an account, then public outcry might get them to realize that an ad-free account would be a good idea.

When I see someone suggest that they talk to Userplane I'll agree. All I've seen are demands for "fix it" and "make them go away".

And you have confirmed what I already posted when I said that I didn't see ads until today. That, to me at least, suggests error which would be on the part of Userplane. I'm sure if there is a problem with the service it will be worked out. It almost always is.

I personally never attributed the problem to SG or Userplane, my first comment was to question who to go to about the problem.

If it is an error, then staff might not know about it unless people respond, just like with any of the other bugs that have been cropping up.

Sorry if you thought I was attributing those comments to you. To be fair, there have been a lot of really bitchy complaints about chat.

If it is an error, then staff might not know about it unless people respond, just like with any of the other bugs that have been cropping up.

Again... whining and demanding it be fixed is not the way to go. Post something simple in the bugs thread or fill out a help request. Don't just start a thread complaining and demanding solutions. Fuck... I'd ignore that.

And yes, in case you're wondering, I have posted about the comment count error in the official bugs thread. So have several other people.

I was told it was because of the 14 minute edit time that they don't show up right away.

I still want it fixed. frown
It's hard to have rapid fire journal conversations when you don't know if someone has replied.

I miss it being instant as well, since I'm so used to checking to site just to see if I have new comments.
-It might not, I have no idea, but if you use RSS to track new journal comments, does that update immediately, or just whenever the number in the corner updates?

You're right Freak. All some people do here is complain that it's not like the old site.

Actually, I have to agree. The lag sucks. I used to be able to carry on a sort-of conversation with people through comments, now it's more difficult. I know that the comments are there as soon as they're made, but since I don't want to have to sit here and check for new comments every couple minutes, the lag disrupts the flow of conversation.

I realize it was that way on purpose, I refer to it as a fiasco to exaggerate the point that I've seen quite a good many people upset about it. I]m not upset per se but I do think it's lame. do you know why it was inplimented, because I haven't figured out the point ?

Fiasco?

It's that way on purpose.

This is SO DUMB.
Even if it isn't a "bug" we are not paying userplane customers, SG is. They hold our proxy, and our money.

Exactly my point.

If you get chat service from Userplane you don't demand that the SG tech staff fixes it.

Userplane is not going to deal with us. We are not a customer of theirs. SG is. If SG has decided to activate the ads to generate revenue, then it is up to us to bring that up with SG. If there is an error in the account that is wrongly showing the ads, it is up to SG to correct that account.

In general I am quite happy with the recent changes.

However I am concerned about 'Friends only' Blogs, a lot of people I correspond with aren't on my friends list but are people I have met at meets and people from groups that I am in that I don't consider I know well enough for friendship.
Whats the matter with 'Friends Threads' for stuff members only wish to share amongst there friends?

I recently noticed in settings I no longer have the option to make my group memberships or comments private. Was that changed or am I just missing something because I would prefer them private?

You might want to take this to the bugs thread at the top of the threads list instead of bumping a three year old thread.
