I used to feel that way. Then, in a combined fit of rage for having to re-install Windows XP AGAIN on my PC and a touch of curiousity, I bought a Mac Mini. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back. wink

i would rather install XP 5 times a year than have to use a Mac and even Apple have realised this with Bootcamp which let's you install XP on guess what..... your Mac

75% of the programs I want to use only run on it and don't have good OSX counterparts?

I'd say that's a good reason.

But what about a reason for the "NEVER use Apple" sentiment?

A conveniently shirt-pocket-sized walkman with 10 hours of video, 130 hours of music, 1500 pictures, and my entire hard drive backed up on it.
And a cheap service plan so I don't have to pay for batteries (or replacement walkmans) for at least two years.

I'm one of those folks who thought that PCs were oh so fantastic. Due to a job change, I switched from PC to Mac 3 years ago. I will never ever go back. I love my Mac's head off! Most reliable machine I've ever worked with. And I love my iPod, too. I've literally used it daily for about 16 months now. Worth every penny.

Ok, so it was a gift. Worth every one of my husband's pennies.

Games, Games and more Games biggrin

It's funny how most gamers own a PC for computer gaming, and any (recent) console they own probably runs off a PowerPC chip. That said, I've always imagined what would happen if Apple made a gaming computer. They specialize their computers in everything else.

And I'm wondering what 75% of programs that people use don't have a Mac-designed equivalent.

And like Clov said, how do some people go "I'll never buy an Apple product"? I use a Windows-based laptop, sure, but I would consider getting an iPod if I had the money. I've got no qualms about using a Powerbook or a MacBook Pro if I need to. It's still a computer. Apple makes a good product, usually at least an equal to PCs (except for the Mighty Mouse).

But then again, I'm not a PC gamer. Or a computer gamer, period. I grew up on consoles, so my hands aren't associated to the mouse/keyboard style that goes through the market.

And can someone just move this to Lifestyle?

I will never own an ipod.

I have an Mp3 player from *gasps* the lowly competition - and I like it just as much, and it saved me mucho $$$.

some of us think $300 for what basically amounts to a walkman is obscene.

I agree. That doesn't make the original poster's argument any less silly.

I imagine a good half of the people that don't support Apple believe Steve Jobs kicked a puppy back in 1987.

The other half? Well, they have actual reasons. But being embarassed to own an Apple product seems very, very odd. After all, it's just fucking equipment.

Seriously. Hell, I hate Windows, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft as a company, but I still have a Microsoft wireless mouse. Why? Because as evil as Microsoft is, and as crappy as their flagship products are, they make mice that my hands like, and that work quite nicely. I've never been a fan of irrational brand hatred, or words like "never" (I don't even know what I'll be doing a month from now, let alone forever), or, for that matter, anything particularly irrational.

Exactly. Everyone knows what a die hard Mac user I am, and yet I also own a Windows PC and a PocketPC phone. On a daily basis I use more Microsoft devices than Apple ones.
