The oldest page should be page one and the most recent should be page whatever-the-hell

But that's how it is. Do you mean you want the newest comments first and the oldest comments last?

Well, each journal is counted, I remember just recently there was journal #1,000,000. My latest journal is journal update #1,087,397. Wether that has anything to do with it, I don't know.

Personally I would rather have my most recent to oldest, for remembering something I said last week, or editing.

But perhaps there could be a last page link implemented.

I agree, and I don't want to change the order of linking, just the numbering in the URL. I should be able to type page1 in the URL and go straight to your oldest entries.

*watches as freak flag is thrown down on the play*

You've gone from being someone asking a fairly innocent-yet-geeky question to being an aggro/creepy dude bent on getting specific information regarding the site's database design. You're replying to every response in the thread looks like you're circling and waiting eagerly for an answer (to a question that generally wouldn't strike me as the sort of thing that you've got to have an immediate answer to, even if it is geeky curiosity)... You're more or less arguing with the other members who've written anything in the thread...

My advice - relax. Wait to get a response from staff (if they so choose to discuss it). And either be nice to people who post in here, or ignore them and don't be all dismissive and stuff.

Well, I'm glad to see that assmunch is no longer on the site! wink

For the record, yes, "circling and waiting eagerly for an answer" is the sort of thing a person with ADD in a hyperfocused state will do when they've just joined a new website and have a "fairly innocent-yet-geeky question", especially when they have the day off from work and have nothing better to do than hang around on SG that day.

And four years later, I still don't have an answer to my question. mad I assume it's too difficult to code...?

i doubt it would be hard to code in terms of figuring out how to do it, but it would almost certainly be non-trivial in terms of actual labor required. given that i've never seen anyone else ask for this feature, the developers probably don't--and don't intend to--make this a priority. there might even be reasons to not do it that way.
