I just found this in an old email account I rarely check... regarding the Pop Punk Fever 2 CD I did with my partner at Nice Guy Records

For reference...

Mercie, Gadget, Clover, Fleur, and members Lyn and prettydeadgirl are on the cover.... Read on....

At first glance I just found it a little surprising that Poppunk.com
and Nice Guy Records had girls with pop-punk T-shirts in their
underwear on the cover. But, at further inspection the display of
girls playing around in their underwear on display for the purchaser
to drool over came as somewhat shocking. I understand the Suicide
Girl's claim that they are questioning the beauty myth, but underneath
the appearances and if anyone searches a bit further, it's pretty
apparent that that claim is flawed. Their display of women, naked or
scantily dressed, to sell sex is anti-feminist, sexist, and
objectifying women. In an era where progress towards equality among
all people is crucial to the progression of the world and humankind as
a whole; it is sad to see people trying to market "punk" with
sex-specifically exploiting women's sexuality for the benefit of men.=20
Next time you want to attempt to freely express sexuality on something
like an album cover, you should consult your local Women's Studies
department and not a capitalist organization trying to sell sex over
the internet. You see, Suicide Girls is infinitely biased towards the
claims that they make, because they are attempting to make a lot of
money off of those claims. I would suggest that you pull the CD, and
reformat the artwork-removing the sexist aspects displayed. I think
it would be better for the artists, punk, and society as a whole.=20
What it stands as now is a great regression in music as well as
alienating women in the punk scene. I'm sure you will see a backlash
in the punk community, and hopefully from the bands on the CD-if they
have the personal strength to stand up against it.
If you need a specific critique of the Suicide Girls I will cite the
paper I wrote called "Nothing New" in response to City Beat's article
on them called "To Die For"

I love how he called his dull, self-important, head-went-up-ass-to-go-look-for-missing-stick letter to the editor a paper. I bet now that they ran it, he calls himself a published philosopher.

I could honestly care less if people don't like SG or if they do, but some people go a little out of the way to over-analyze things that don't need to be analyzed at all. SG is a porn site, of course SG wants to make money. If any of the girls feel objectified, they can quit. No one is being forced to get naked for this site. Lastly, I hate most feminists. At least the ones that claim to speak on behalf of every woman everywhere. I can speak for myself, thank you very much.

I'm so exploited frown My pimp put a gun to my head and forced me to do this against my will.

Woes me frown

And all of the nice tings members say and the wonderful flowers and goodies I get sent, those realy just ruin my day too. No really whatever

God, this guy needs his head out of his ass.

that's exactly it. i told a coworker about it, and he acted like he felt bad for my poor exploited self, and he actually said 'what guy tricked you into that.'

it's fucking insane. it's like, we just don't know that we're being exploited! it's a trick that it makes us feel empowered! fuck that. people are stupid.

What the fuck people? the guy is entitled to his opinion. and personally, i agree with him on some of his points. so if youre going to 'tell this guy to go to hell' because he's a feminist. then tell me the same thing.

yeah.. like there's no chance that I might WANT to pose nude. Also that whole schpiel about it being for men only... um 50% of the members are women, the site is part-owned by women, most of the staff is women, almost none of the photos are typical porn-style masculine fantasies, and anyway maybe it's ok for men and women to interract in a way that arouses one another. The whole statement just assumes that only men view porn and women are only involved with porn because they're brainless sheep. That's sexist in and of itself.
What alienates me more in the punk scene is when there are no women at all- just white boys talking about racism, sexism, and capitalism.

What a douche.

I love how people who claim that this site is objectifying women always talk about us like we couldn't possibly have any of our own opinions or reasons for being here... they always seem to be the quickest to "objectify".

It's so ridiculous-- to this guy there are two parties involved here, the "capitalist organization trying to sell sex" and you, the exploitative photographer. To him the girls are irrelevent, just pawns being used for someone elses benefit. Personally I find that outlook to be offensively sexist. I just love being told by some guy how I'm being victimized by choosing to take my clothes off. "Oh thank you, Mr. PC Punk Avenger, for showing me how foolish I was! I had no idea that people were making money off my body! I was so naiive! I guess I can't trust my own judgement-- I'm just a girl-- I don't know how this big world of capitalism and men and money works! It's all so confusing. Thank you for rescuing me from my ignorance you big strong man-- how can I ever repay you?" whatever puke

Seriously, though, this guy is a douche-- and sadly, his misogynist-in-disguise pseudo-feminist attitude is all too common.

I never said he wasn't entitled to his opinion. But I'm entitled to my own opinions as well, and my opinion is that most feminists annoy the shit out of me. It's unfortunate, because I think a lot of the things they believe in/say/do are fantastic, but the ones that are self-important and assume they know what's right for everyone ruin it for me. And those are the ones I most often come across.

well.. we can be upset at his opinion. its more... i'm angry at his ignorance.. since this place tries especially hard to put the power of sexuallity into the girl's hands.

I guess politically correct is the new punk.

The only thing that offends me about that album cover art is the typography!

Apparently, geocities is punk rock approved capitilasm.

1. I said that because one of the points of the letter is that all porn is just for men's pleasure, which is clearly not the case especially for SG

2. I like that SG has a lot of female members because it makes it feel more like a real-life group of people that's mixed in every way- our own little country perhaps. However, I would still have posed for the site even if it was 90-10 or 100-0 because I wanted to pose nude regardless of the audience. I'm not perfectly certain that the membership is exactly 50-50, but the staff has mentioned that it's about even.

its like he is saying.. "i want women to be equal.. but only if they keep their clothes on and ignore that they also are sexual beings."'

and damn.. i bet this guy must also think that the Sears catelog is sexist too.. since it shows women in their underwear... after all.. they are trying to sell bras.

If someone's a pretentious tool on a letters-to-the-editor page and there's no one around to read it, does it still make a sound?

I really love this passage: "In pornography, human beings become commodities. They're bought and sold in the marketplace for whatever exchange value can be extracted. The question remains if pornography can be accomplished in a way that doesn't make the women commodities."

Please! Whatever, Theory Boy: show me a single marketplace transaction involving the transfer or exchange of things or services of value that does not turn the things or services into commodities. Pornography can be accomplished in a way that does not turn the women into commodities only when no one finds value in the pictures. Jackass!

As much as I hate the Religious Right for their sanctimonious, self-righteous crap, I have to say that the pompous, ideologically purist Left are no better.

Ladies, ladies, ladies: The culture warriors in your local Women's Studies department are not your friends! They're neo-Victorian dogmatists just as much as the right-wing cranks are!

I know that the question wasn't directed at me, but I'm going to answer anyway. I think the percentage of women members is irrelevant. I've heard the 50% statistic, and I've heard some disagreement about it. But the point is that there is a strong female presence on this site and it isn't just some boys-club where guys make dirty comments about the girls and the girls don't say anything. There are a lot of strong female voices on this site, both models and members, and in that way it's different from a lot of other porn sites.
