I'd quite like an ignore feature. At the moment friend posts are purple, staff posts are green, SG posts are pink and my posts are blue.

A private ignore list (an enemy list?) would be handy, and those posts made by my enemies could be black. So the text is black on a black background. People could Copy n Paste it if they wanted to read it.

How about when you see the username of someone whose posts you don't want to read, you don't read them?

It's pretty common as a feature, but I've never really seen the point, since if anyone quotes the person, then you get to read the damned thing anyway.

Where's the fun in that? surreal

Seriously, some people post "quite a lot", or they are just very annoying. Other people find it hard to ignore them. An ignore feature would be handy.

if there was an ignore feature, wouldn't some of the threads be kind of hard to follow? especially if said ignored person does post alot...

Plus.. sure you're suggesting that it's just an adaptation of the existing post colouring code, but it would need to be fitted into the update page etc etc.
I don't really see this one happening.

No. Some threwads would be easier. Imagine 5 people posting to a thread; three people that you like and two people that you hate. You can ignore everything that the people that you hate are saying, allowing you to concentrate on the stuff that the people you liek are saying. Also, if you really need to, you can read what the ignored people are saying by selecting the their text.

It doesn't have to go everywhere. Just the boards and maybe the groups.

Lots of people would use it and love it. I don't see why people are complaining. IT'S NOT COMPULSORY. smile

In something fast like a chat room it is useful to shut-out someone who is harrassing you. Especially if the moderator doesnt monitor activity or enforce any of their rules like "Yahoo." In the SG forums though the staff frequently make public apearances to participate in the activity. They are not hesitant to encourage or critisize member behavior.

If you want to make a private list for your self go ahead. Check your notes before reading anything. If this is too cumbersome then just get a grease-pencil and blackout anything you dont want to read.

An ignore feature is useful in a slow moving forum like Usenet. My news-reader can score on any header available from the server, and I oucld use Nfilter to score on anything in the post.

This private list isn't to protect people from zot-worthy behaviour. It's just to make reading the boards easier...

it would be a convenience feature just like the "UP" button. should we get rid of anything that might encourage laziness? I'm perfectly happy to type out all my own tags if you are!

I can see this feature inspiring disintrest at worst, I don't get why people hate the idea so much.

what happens if a friend quotes an enemy? will the quote box be black?

nah, pointless. just don't read 'em, simple enough. and lets be honest, if you can't read someone's posts, how do you know they are your enemy anymore?

well for me it wouldn't be so much enemies (do I have enemies?) as the two or three members whose posts usually make my teeth grind for some reason.

the idea, of course, is to not read them. this feature would prevent them from sneaking up on me in the middle of a perfectly good thread.

but hey, I've gotten along fine without it for over a year now.
