thanks Dryad...that sounds good. Did not know wehre to find it.

I typed in search for keyword HOPEFUL and all I received were groups for SG hopefuls who have already shot a set. thank you...will join.

Thank you
Dos V

"hopeful" just means you hope to become an SG. It does not matter if you have shot a set or not. Or if you aren't going to for years. The little tag by people's profile means nothing. Join both groups, get to know the community. Don't get caught up and stupid status stuff.

thanks Ridley, I agree...I had a chick moment in a bad way.

I actually did join the SG Hopefuls groups. One of them is open to everyone one is not. I will apply to the closed group after I have shot a set.

Thanks for the tips.

You don't need to have a set to get into the closed group, you don't need to have a set to have the hopeful tag either.

I have a question regarding existing groups... Is there a way to make sub-threads possible?

For example, in a hair group you would have general topics as tabs along the left side (cuts, colors, extensions, dreads, wigs, whatever) with the threads that relate to them (advice, product reviews, pictures, ect) inside of them, it would make searching easy for people who are too stupid to use the search function and really tidy up some of the more active groups.

Oh, my goodness. A function like this would be wonderful, but I don't know what it would be like as far as programming/creation difficulty.

I know nothing about that end of things, but it would be so awesome and cut down on the "need" for more specific versions of groups

I feel as if I am a minority in a space that is for the minority...which is irony at its best.

I am black, I am gay, I am modified, and Im a woman, so naturally, society has boxed me in, and I accept these bias categories, and compartments everyday, but what hurts the most is the fact this site is a place for the beautiful strange, and again....I have been labeled.

As a paying member, as well as a Hopeful, hopeful...I am saddened.

How exactly is being denied group ownership (but being able to join both the site itself and the other groups within) social commentary?

When, as I have seen you now do multiple times, you decry any position outside of yours as tied into the very real issues challenging women, women of color, and queer women, it cheapens both your argument as well as deeper issues where these prejudices are rampant. That soapbox of yours has gotten a bit tattered.

you either ARE a hopeful, or you ARE NOT. i don't know what a "hopeful hopeful" is, but there are already plenty of hopeless hopefuls...

Creating a group for the sole purpose of locating people to interact via different website or hardware (i.e. handheld device video) is self-defeating.

If your group request is denied, join a group that has very little activity, vote to become owner of that group, and then purge the membership and turn the group into your recently denied group. It's worked for other people and it can work for you!

It would also help with some of the bigger groups. I know in Girls Only any search returns a bunch of unrelated results, so it'd be great if I could organize threads into categories, especially for health information.

Of course, showing this kind of diplomacy is a brilliant reason to be given your own regional group. Maybe you should apply for two, so that the people who don't like the Irish and the people who don't like the English don't have to talk to each other?

An American tourist in Northern Ireland was walking down a street in Belfast, all of a sudden someone puts a gun to his back and says: “Are you a Catholic or Protestant”
The American thinks “If I say Catholic he’ll shoot me because he’s a Protestant, but If I say Protestant he’ll shoot me because he’s a Catholic” thinking about it some more he answers: “I’m Jewish”
The man behind him laughs and says “Praise be to Allah, I’m the luckiest Arab in Ireland”

I found this thread after requesting a group idea for a specific band... oops. So yeah that was dumb. I don't expect to get that approved.

But I thought I read somewhere that members of a group could vote in a new group owner if the present owner is M.I.A.

How many votes do you need and do you just need to post a voting thread in the group itself? Or do you need to post it somewhere else?

And just in case I'm too stupid to have seen the answer to this already I'd like to apologize in advance.

First you need to make sure the owner is actually MIA and not lurking. Then you need to start a nomination thread for a week I believe, then a vote thread for another week for the nominees within the group. A majority vote is all that's necessary, and Lil' Tuffy can make the changes.

cross-posting myself from elsewhere on the site.

I just submitted a request for an SNL group, I figured there's a lot to say about a show that has launched the careers of several comedy greats and inspired several movies... plus moments like Sinead O'Connor and the Pope photo, Ashley Simpson's lip-synch-flub and Tina Fey's freakishly accurate Sarah Palin impression...

SNL is more than a tv show, it's a reflection the last 3+ decades. The "TV" group wouldn't cover all of the aspects, like the movies that were inspired by sketches or discussions about specific sketches/digital shorts/guests, etc.

But it's still just a specific tv show and I understand that tv shows are on the black list. I wouldn't know where to start anything about SNL on the Boards?

I tried putting in for a group dedicated to nudists and the clothing optional lifestyle but I was declined. Not to be a sourpuss but it might be worth including a link to this thread in the automatically generated email that you use to decline groups. It would have saved me the trouble of applying for the group a second time and giving whomever, more work to do.

But at the same time I still don't understand why the group was declined. I'm not sure how often people request more information when their group idea is declined, and how that might conflict with existing work duties, but if someone from HQ could give me some idea where my group request was lacking, I would appreciate it. I think (and feel free to disagree) that a nudists group could be a welcome addition to the SG community so if there is something that I can do to make that happen, I am more than open to suggestions.
