SG Shop WISHLIST:
As someone who has yet to pick a side in the WISHLIST debate, I was thinking that a good second option would be for the staff to create the SG Shop WISHLIST.

How SG would benefit:

  • Would be receiving money that goes to Amazon.com, for example
  • Increased advertisement from members sporting SG merchandise

How the members would benefit:

  • Could feel like WISHLISTs were a part of SG, and not an external (often awkward!) option
  • Personal information would be just as confidential as it is in a member's billing settings***

***One problem I have with Amazon.com Wish Lists is that buyers may be able to obtain my shipping address from third-party merchants, and I do not want to open a P/O Box.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Third-party item shipping
At Amazon.com, third-party sellers (i.e., sellers other than Amazon) offer many items. If you instruct Amazon to share your Wish List shipping address with these third-party sellers, then customers can purchase items for you off your Wish Lists that are sold by these sellers and have them automatically sent to your confidential Wish List shipping address.

If you choose to enable this feature, you acknowledge that Amazon will provide the seller of your item with your Wish List shipping address, and the seller may disclose this address to the buyer (for example, when sending the buyer a purchase confirmation). Further, because an item may often be purchased from more than one seller, the sellers offering the item at the time of purchase may be different than the sellers offering the item when you placed the item on your Wish List.

If you decide not to enable this feature, customers purchasing items for you that are sold by sellers other than Amazon will be required to enter your shipping address.

Whereas, if the SG Shop provided a Wish List, my personal information would be just as confidential as it is in my billing settings.

Seriously. Most of the stuff on my wishlist is SG merch anyways. (EDIT: The books and movies, I mean.) It only makes sense.
Though maybe staff doesn't really want to encourage the whole wishlist phenomenon.

Optimize a bit more for wide monitors. A good portion of computers for the last few years have been including the wides screen monitors to accomodate dvd / blue ray watchers so these have become common place.

I'm on a 15" laptop and the content portion of SG only takes up about the center 1/3 of the screen. I have a fine wallpaper pattern (which I love btw) taking up the other 2/3 of the space.

The thing with SG wishlist is, Amazon has a feature that allows you to add stuff from other websites, such as SG. I added an SG vest top, for example.

I would like a feature that allows you to search through your mail for a PM from a particular member. So instead of wading through, clicking back 50 all the time, I could say, I want to see messasges from this person, and I could type their name in, and tadaaaa.

Also, someone complained to me that he couldn't make his comments private. He didn't want his wife getting jealous that he said nice things about a girl (she knew he was on SG, but still). He left the site because of it. I don't see why that couldn't change?

Possibilities. Ho hum.

You can make your comments private, in that you can remove the feature on your page tabs marked "comments." So, your comments are still viewable if you come across them, but you can't be comment stalked and there is no one place to see all of what you've said. Otherwise, the fellow with the jealous wife could have just send messages, which are already private.

How exactly do you make them totally private? I only see options to make them visible to either everyone, members only, or friends only.

You can't. If you want something to be totally private, then just send a message, not a comment. I think I already answered that, though. Why would anyone want to leave a comment and make it totally private? I don't get why the messaging system isn't adequate to cover this.

Good Morning. I've been a member of SG for only 2 days and have a question: if you can't become a member of a group until youhave some friends, how do you get friends without belonging to a group? Am I to pick random members to start talking with? Maybe these boards are the place to start. Suggestions?

I've been enjoying SG for a week or so now, and have a few suggestions that could make the experience even cooler:

* LAST VISITOR - a list on your profile page that tells you the last 10 visitors you had.

* PRIVATE MESSAGE BOX - so that you can leave messages for people, without them having to go to email to pick it up.

...that's about it from me. Keep up the amazing work all those involved.

that doesn't apply to all groups - try joining some of the public groups that interest you, like Film Club, maybe. that's open to everyone.

I don't mean so private that no one else can see it. There would be no point in leaving a comment, obviously.

I just mean that I would love an option that makes comment-stalking impossible, even to those on my friends list.
