This is a really simple question for any veteran of SG I am sure. I have looked around and can't find an answer. What is allowed in terms of photos? If I want to make an album to share with some friends are there things that are NOT allowed? Or is it only enforced and strict if posting to a group or board? Thanks!
Well, sexually explicit photos or videos are not allowed, generally speaking, but depending somewhat on the context. (Some of the photo sets show two girls kissing, but anything much beyond that is a no-no.)
You're not allowed to post images that are disturbing or extremely distasteful. Also, images that seem to promote discrimination aren't allowed -- for example, racist jokes or captions.
That's what leaps to mind, but there's probably other stuff that's also not allowed. Sometimes it's a judgement call. If in doubt, please don't post it.
This depends on where you're posting it. There are some groups that are extremely friendly to sexually explicit pictures and videos. Like for example, as I write this, the masturbation group is chock full of pictures and video of people whackin' off, which includes girls goin' balls deep with sex toys. That, of course, comes down to the tolerance of the group owner though. Like, for example while that group does have a fair bit of people posting stuff like that, the anal sex group doesn't have any post-a-pic threads. Oddly, as I type this, those two groups are owned by the same person so, while it's usually a result of the group owner, one might think otherwise with the examples I just gave.
For posting sexually explicit videos and pictures on the main boards, that depends on what it is and what people will expect your intentions are. Like, for example if you post an animated gif on the silliness board of two people dressed in clown suits fucking doggy style on a park bench lookin' around all paranoid, that might get a response of quite a few chuckles. But you'll probably be asked to put it under a spoiler.
Post a video of a closeup of your dick going into your girlfriend's pussy on the sex talk board and you're likely to get a very different response, especially if it's something where you think it's hot and wanna share what you perceive of the hotness.
Them's been my findings in the years I've been here, at least.
Things are a lot looser than they used to be in terms of what is allowed and what isn't. Once upon a time it didn't take much to catch a zot. Things like graphic images and videos all used to strictly verboten, but it seems these days to not be as strictly enforced. Hell, even blatant account sharing seems to be ignored.
Sending people sexually explicit pics when they weren't requested? Big big no-no. Great way to lose your account.
Posting sexually explicit pics on the boards apropos of nothing? Good way to get people making fun of your junk (and depending on how you handle it -- er, how you handle the thread, not how you handle your junk -- good way to get a thread locked quickly or get yourself forced anonymous and therefore unable to post more pics of your sweet, sweet genitals).
Sexually explicit pics in your profile? No one cares unless you're trying to send them to people who haven't asked for them. If someone happens to stumble across them they might giggle about it and do the internet equivalent of pointing and laughing with their friends, but they generally won't do the point-and-laugh thing anywhere you'll read it (a.k.a, threads in private groups).
Sexually explicit pics in groups devoted to sexually explicit pics? Totally cool. Great way to get some admiration for what the good lord gave you (or to gross people out, but we're usually too polite to call you on it in public).
Sexually explicit pics sent to someone who asked you to send them said pics? Awesome, rock on with your bad self, get your internet freak on.
Context is everything. If you're unsure, lurk a little longer before treating everyone to the money shot.
