Please, oh gods of SG, please make a way for me to unsubscribe from a group thread.
The punishment of being subjected for eternity to a thread I'm no longer interested in is just too high.
Thank you.

Do you mean threads in groups? Or is there some other group thread that I do not know about?

Agreed. I hate that I posted ONCE in a thread that I have no real interest in, yet it clogs up my news feed. Please conjure up a solution!

If you go to MYSG then on the right side of the screen it has a 'alert me when someone posts in a group tread Ive bookmarked' and if you uncheck it they dont show up.

Threads within a group.

Common example:
I posted a few years back in the New Tattoos thread in the Tattoo Group. Now, I still enjoy being in said group, and want updates from other threads within the group, but I'm sick to death of seeing new posts pop up on my side bar or MYSG every time someone shows off their new ink in that particular thread.

It's similar to an "unfollow post" function on something you commented on Facebook to prevent getting 50 new notifications, if you will.

Agreed! I have commented in some pretty popular threasds but HATE getting in in the MYSG newsfeed every fucking hour but still want to get notifications from other threads and stay in said group...

Is this possible???

If you look in the corner of that post in your MYSG feed, there is an box with an X in it. When you mouse over it, it says "Ignore this event". Click on that.

Does that unsubscribe you from the group thread? Or does it just remove that individual post from your SG feed?

Also, doesn't the Unbookmark button work? I'm looking at a group thread, and, judging by what the button says, it seems to be letting me switch bookmarking of the thread on and off.

Clicking "Ignore this event" only removes the post from your MYSG feed, it doesn't unsubscribe you.

Also the unbookmark button only works to unsubscribe you if you've never posted in the thread. If you've actually made a post, you're stuck getting the updates.

This is one of the reasons I've been closing threads in Silliness when they get to 300 pages. It might be a good idea for group owners to start doing stuff like that too. It's not like anyone is ever going to go through that "new tattoo" thread mentioned above.

Good point.

If my groups get that much action I'll start doing the same.

Ok. So I have closed that thread in the tattoo group (930 pages!) and started a new one. I'll alert other group owners to look into taking similar action.

I know a lot of regional groups do semi-regular random threads and many Member Since 'XX groups also have annual threads so it might be good for the more popular groups to employ the same practice.

Thanks.

In your MYSG Filter Settings, if you uncheck the box by "Show when anyone: Comments on a group discussion in which you're participating", it stops those threads you've posted in showing up.

I'm confused about this issue. If you unbookmark a thread, doesn't that take care of the problem? Or does just posting in a thread essentially make you "subscribed" forever?

Yea, that's how I've known it to work as well. You can not stop following a thread in a group once you've commented in it unless you leave the group. Which some groups can be difficult to get in to so you might strongly prefer to not want to leave it. For example a regional group.

I do like having the Show when anyone comments in a group discussion" checked so I do keep it checked. Usually it's not that big a deal. There are, however, a few threads that are very active and not all the activity is something that'd interest me. Some of them I just made one comment in it years ago (often in the first page never really knowing that it'd be a huge gazillion page thread) and now I still get numerous posts per day. It can be an issue for the larger groups on SG (like the masturbation group for example)

I too would really like to see where you just click UNBOOKMARK at the top of the thread and, for the problem threads, you'll have to either comment in them again or manually click the bookmark button. Because, for me at least, it's only a few threads. 99% of the time it's not an issue for me. biggrin

I'd like to be able to take board threads off my "Your Topics" list. Could there please be an "Unsubscribe" button next to each thread in the Your Topics list? I'd rather be able to participate in a Silliness thread once in a blue moon without it flooding out all my other conversations.

Ah. Yeah I turned off the "when someone comments in a thread you posted in" option, and just manually bookmark threads I want to have show up in my feed. So I don't have that clutter issue anymore.
