I only went to page four so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but, you guys, it's so obvious to me that MR is still Staff choosing the sets.
It's never been denied that Staff has the final say in what sets get bought regardless of comment count or percent loved. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just not very familiar with the process.
I think the rest of your post made very good points.
Sure, I mean it would be silly to think they would absolve themselves of the right to chose sets.

I hope the girls can see that saying "I don't want to take risk to shoot a different set" is the same business-motive as the staff saying "I don't want to take risk to accept a lower % set." Even if they're not going to get bought, I think it's important to keep MR interesting and alive. And, though the money helps, this isn't anyone's career. Make sets of what you think the site should stand for! (Though I agree that the one major point of difficulty is the photographers' time.)
I totally agree with this. I have never chosen the content of my sets according to what will or won't be purchased. I know that it is a risk but I shoot for me as a form of self expression. If people enjoy what I do then great, if not I will always have those pictures and will love them forever.
it's so obvious to me that MR is still Staff choosing the sets. Otherwise we wouldn't see sets with lower %s being bought while higher %s linger. The only difference is that now you have massive quantities of content being submitted for free. Who is more likely to submit free content to a site, not knowing if their look will even fly? Wide-eyed teenagers or older girls who have a stronger personality? The whole thing is pretty smart from a business perspective and I think it's a riot. If SGs with a few sets under their belts tire of giving the site free content then there will always be others to take their places. I would be very surprised if staff review *minus* free content ever happens again. Girls have proved that they are willing to do this and members have proved that they will 'vote'.
And yes.
I miss the days that blogs were about what is going on in people's lives and not 'vote for me/vote for my friend/vote for my mom'
So I bought a one year membership off the SG Facebook for valentines day for a friend. It charged the credit card but never gave me any of the codes. Anyone know the best way to handle this?

Send a help request. This thread isn't the right place to be posting about billing issues.
Psssst SG staff.....can you please take into consideration what's being said here?
I really do think it would be possible to cater to the different...tastes...that frequent this site.
I would just like to see more Nixon's, Dwam's, Charlie's, Roethke's....
The girls who brought me TO this site.
That type of TRUE alternative beauty, with creative, darker sets.
Not just a bunch of girls who could be found on any nude website.
I thought the Valentine's day staff review was cool -- two sets that, judging by their comment count/% loved probably wouldn't have made it through MR but made a good contrast with eachother.

If these sets will never be accepted why do they end up in MR in the first place?
It's obvious that if these sets were properly edited to their best photos there would only be 5 or 6 good shots left. No where near enough to be considered a "set".
But this isn't a hopeful issue. They are not the ones to blame.
This is a photographer issue, and it's an SG issue, so I hope that anyone exposed in these photo aren't offended. Firstly the people taking these sets need to throw away their tripods and learn how to shoot better sets, but the fact that once they are submitted and someone at SG approves them for consideration at all is shameful and insulting to us as members. Who approves them and when will it stop?
this this this good GOD this! I have seen gals with really REALLY dull, even horrible, or just not very exciting sets get into MR. If better standards were used in MR maybe a lot of us hopefuls would learn faster about what is a good set and what is not. There are a couple gals who have put 4 or 5 sets in MR that look like they were shot in the dark with a 5 megapixel box camera, unedited, and for some reason they seem to think that if they just keep filling up MR that they'll be accepted. they don't take criticism well and they're defensive and downright bitchy and blame the photographer every time.
there are lots of us Hopefuls whose sets have evolved quite a way from the 'terribad' to the 'mmm pretty decent, just needs a bit more___' and by the site accepting every single set from a hopeful that doesn't try to evolve or learn, it's pretty heartbreaking...I am sure there are SGs AND other hopefuls who actually TRY whose spots are much better taken in MR.
From the point-of-view of a Hopeful, I'd also like to see a lot of the criticisms that are put on my set. If someone says 'not for me' I would LOVE to know why, so I can learn. Even the harsh ones like "don't wear a wig" and "you look so much better with more makeup" or "wow terrible poses." How else will I learn?
while I'm saying my piece, I KNOW that our votes are just meant to suggest what we want to see on the front page, but myself and 2,000 other voters (with 98%) would like to give a holler to some AMAZING hopefuls who ARE active on the site and whom we think are the bees knees. Amarena Episkey
seriously i have no idea how it is possible for Amarena not to be pink yet. her sets are very well received and she's active and she's a doll. she's worked with two staff photographers and had sets that were totally accessible to the general group of anon members that are just here to fap. i don't think it's right that she's being left as a hopeful while other girls are having sets bought.
1. Terrible sets in member review = still free content. Quantity > quality in this case.
2. Regardless of how popular your sets are, staff still picks who they feel represents the site, not the members.
I understand this is an 'open' letter to SG Staff and yes, I know it's still free content, I just wish the bar was raised an eeeeensy bit so we don't get spammed by the same girl 5 or 6 times a month with terrible pictures.
I know it is the council's choice, and I've been very happy with their choices so far, I just couldn't resist the opportunity to post what many of us are saying in a place where I know staff will look.
absolutely NO disrespect intended.
I'm loving this idea I've read about trying to have one 'edgy' set chosen a week (at least!) and then one 'classic bedroom set.' I've even seen gals in the same rooms with the same poses and same editing style, but their differences in their poses and self really shine through.
I think Staff is picking a good mix for the FP as it is, but some of the edgier sets do seem a little unnoticed. Bravo picking Tarion's set, by the way, that set was just amazing!
This thread isn't about fixing Member Review. It's about the front page.
And everyone needs to stop thinking of their comments as "votes." They are not votes. They are just commentary that staff may or may not take under advisement.
Hey, I was just pointed to this thread as a place to voice some of my frustrations. It looks like a lot of other people are feeling similar to me in that the sets being posted to front page the past year have so have seem, to me, to be dull and recycles of each other. While previous SG models that have delivered creative sets are being pushed out, more and more models with similar themes seem to be dominating the front page. I myself have chosen not to renew my membership because of this. I don't know if the rest of you are at that point yet but it seems not worth while anymore for me to pay to look at the same damn sets every single day.
I think everybody is forgetting to view the whole site from the Staff's point of view. After all a lot of you are talking about the good old days when artistic and creative sets were featured more normally. Well its not the good ole days, its the year that many perceive as the last year we will all be alive. I mean this site has very humble underground roots from what I've been able to see since I am a newb compared to many of you who have voiced your opinion in this thread. But as I mentioned these aren't the good ole days anymore and with success and mainstream attention that this site has received (CSI: New York anyone?) it only seems traffic and the number of members that this site will receive will increase. now if there are over 1000 hopeful applicants a week like the site says, thats well over 4000 a month exponentially, not to mention the 2200 plus suicidegirls who comprise the site. Now you don't have to be a mathematician to realize that thats a lot a fucking people to moderate over, especially with a staff of 11 people.
And another problem a lot of people seem to be mentioning is the influx of bedroom shots and this is actually a conversation I've had with Thistle and Tore in the hopeful limbo thread and as they taught me, the hopeful guideline to a girls initial set is a bedroom set. Now keeping in account the number of applications this site gets, its understandable that the staff of 11 wants to set a simple artistic standard for Hopeful models because if they were to attempt to review 4000 plus creative individualistic models a month well...im not sure if thats mathematically possible. Now as I'm sure the staff would love to see a day when there are 10,000 plus suicide girls, its not surprising that we are seeing a entire army of new Suicide Girls who are doing not much more than bedroom sets because after all that is the hopeful "guideline"(which is just a fancy word for rule to me) because of the traffic that this site is starting to receive. I think this just might be a matter of the staff wanting to increase the number of suicide girls there are thereby their focusing on the new kids on the block more these days then they are the OG's of this site such as Nixon and Clio.
I do think threads like this are good though because after eight pages I think the staff is starting to hear us. And just speaking as an active new member who loves this site I knew from the get go that its too expansive at this point to just rely on the front page for the bomb ass sets, I never would have found some of my favorite sets like Cherry's 30 MPH or Nixon's Neck of The Wood set if I wouldn't have explored this site and ignored the front page for a few days. So instead of talking about the same problems for eight more pages how about we do something about it, like starting a Most artistic set of the week thread or most artistic threads set and organizing on that, perhaps even darkest threads or most Punk Rock thread *cough* 30 MPH *cough*. We all know what the problems are now, so the only question is what were going to do about it.

I don't know why you keep saying that I said hopefuls are supposed to do a bedroom set for their first set. What I said was that elaborate themes and makeup are discouraged for first sets.
Im not saying you said hopefuls are suppose to do a bedroom set their first time, I'm saying your the one who linked me to the hopeful FAQ page where it says a good guideline for a hopefuls initial set IS a bedroom set.
