When I found SG years ago, I immediately fell in love with the freedom the site had when photographing beauty. It wasn’t going to allow it’s self to be constricted by the rules that the other pin-up magazines, or magazines in general had created when photographing women. SG was about raw and creative beauty, regardless of body type, or popularity. I have been fortunate enough to be able to contribute to this ideal with the few sets that I have shot for this site, and every time I set to work on one, my team and I try to push the boundaries that are currently in place.
Like any website relying on a constant flow of content, SG has fallen victim to and certain look, the “typical set”. I won’t describe it, but notice how often that it doesn’t matter what the name of the model is, she just looks like a Suicide Girl. Most sets just have the same poses, the same locations, and the same overall vibe. They have become the “SG set”.
Now don’t get me wrong, that look was created by some of the best photographers on this site, and those original sets are breath taking. I don’t know how many times I was just stopped by some of Sean’s beautiful and venerable shoots. The onslaught of copycats, and carbon copy sets however have kept members from even click through full sets, and in my belief have even driven bored members from the site.
Now I’m not trying to be all doom and gloom here, or even focus on the negative, because SG has on occasion given a platform for photographers like photogram, P_mod, albertine, and myself to push the boundaries and create sets that make you want to view all 50 images. Albertine’s early stuff in particular had me drooling, and her work with Manko always caught my eye. Her recent set was just a tease of what used to be. Photogram’s concepts and his ability to capture action makes you feel like you are watching a film. There are a few other photographers who have been able to try to break the mold, but they are few and far between.
Now some would say that it’s the lack of resources that keep these sets from happening, others would say that it’s because they weren’t being accepted. In my mind, ultimately, it’s because of the comments. Take a look at the most commented sets of all time on this site. How many are high concept? All of the girls that are up there are beautiful, and should be getting a lot of attention, but is that really what this site is all about, and is that a bad thing? I am not leaning one way or the other.
I just miss the high concept stuff, and the urge to do them. The good ones are just buried beneath piles and piles of the same old thing, lost due to low comments, or bad release dates.
So I wanted to take a moment and bring some of the good ones(in my opinion) back into for front and ask you all to show some love. Post appreciations in your journals, write notes to the photographers, ask for more. The only reason I shot Stray Bullet was because people kept asking me for a new set. That, and the fact that Rydell was awesome.
So before I end my rant, I want to say that I mean no disrespect to the other photographers or sets on the site. Being one of the biggest fans of this site, I only wish to inspire a new level of work.
Ok, enough ranting here are a few sets to remember.
First of all, I love your work, and have a HUGE appreciation for sets like the ones listed above. I've always wanted to do higher concept shoots but lacked the appropriate resources. The hardest thing about SG is the fact that you could spend a lot of work/time/money into a set and it wont be bought. The French girls boxing multi is a good example of that.
Being one of the newer photographers on sit i've kind of had to adjust shooting style as far as lighting and types of shoots I do to match whats popular on this site. Theres a part of me thats itching to shoot something different, and I've actually have a couple of sets in the same vein as some of these lined up. They will take a little bit more time and effort but overall if I'm able to pull it off well, hopefully they'll have a bit of a placeholder like the sets above.

The only advice I can give you is don't wait on this site to provide you with resources. They won't. You won't make a dime on the sets you love.
That being said, pull together your resources and shoot the best damn set you can. If it is rad...I mean fucking awesome, and it doesn't fit their mold, they will take it.
Don't do it for the money, and don't shoot a ton of mediocre sets either. The good one will get you attention here and off the site(which is more important in my mind)
Hero Worship, by tmronin. This photo set uses a comic book theme in an artistic and imaginative way. It's fun and sexy too.
Resistance Is Futile, by Lorelei. This set has a good science fiction theme, done in a low budget way using minimal props and great lighting. The photography is very colorful and striking.
Mariology, by Bexi. I'm always up for a bit of blasphemy, but this set really excels, with its great concept and execution.

I remember the "Resistance" set. The light was fantastic in it.
So many great sets mentioned. Savage Repose is one of the all-time greatest sets here.
SG has a baseline that is far above most sites. It has come so very far from the early days, and those early days were sweet. I certainly can't decry the standard set. However, I also love that, for a site that is outside the norm of porn, there are photographers and models that push the boundaries. Be it lascivious, thought-provoking, inspiring, hilarious, or all or some of the above, there have always been sets that are worth noting. And I hope there will always continue to be.
Surreality makes several good points. Creative sets shot for this site tend to be a labor of love. I don't think that's any big secret. I'm just happy to hear that the feedback is worthwhile to those involved.
I am not trying to toot my own horn...but I have to mention my Eternal Life set. Kraven ~ Eternal Life
Not only because I most definitely pushed the norm here.... but it was so cool to create a set all from my creativity and crazy mind. I had a photographer that said ok lets do this and at the time was not afraid to push the norm and we created a great work of art in my opinion. It might not have been the standards of the site...but they put it up and it got a lot of great remarks. I have so many other ideas like this...that are more like a story book set then a nude set of photos that I wish to create... I want to ... I just fear now with no more creative weekends no one will shoot them for me. I have asked a few people to shoot a set for me and they all say I am not sure how it will go over on the site. But I know if they shoot it it will be amazing art. I don't want just any old photographer shooting a set like this because it has to be done good and with attention to detail. And photographers are afraid of losing money and time as these sets are hit or miss....so it leaves us models in a predicament of disappointment and just pushing them to the back of our minds.
And while I know this has been talked about time and time again... I still love that this thread was started because the creative weekends they had going for the past few months....that is no longer going on....were some of my fave sets to ever go up....and I know those were just a hint of what sets use to be on the site.
You have all named all of my very favorite sets. I am such a fan of the high concept stuff and was thrilled when SG started featuring more sets that leaned this way on the weekends.
What stops me and many models and photographers from putting out high concept sets is not the lack of ideas or creativity...it's the fear that the set won't be bought, like Kraven had mentioned.

Valid complaints Kraven. Convincing someone to put their time and money on the line is tough, and not know for sure if the set will got live sucks too.
These days it's about getting lucky and working with someone at the right moment.
As for creative sets being released...the website will do what gets alot of attention. If you want creative stuff, you gotta demand it, and then, people have to comment and give it attention.
at the end of the day it's all about traffic.
To be blunt, the only one I really like here is "Delicia" , the other two just don't get there. I mean no disrespect to the photographer or the model. I looove Alissa's work on and off the site. I've seen how good of an artist she is. I'm sure it was resources, and lack of time and funds that didn't help these sets get to their potential. I feel like we should demand more. Not from the photographers per say, or the models, but more from the site.
A lot of photographers are forced to shoot multiple sets in one day just to make ends meat. We can't expect the best under those conditions. My sets take weeks of planing days of practice and shoot for about 8 to 12 hours!
I vote less sets, higher quality. I also vote more collaborating planning between the site and the photographers, with approved ideas and treatments, and set release dates.

Squeak makes a lot of those kind of sets. Her fabulous tits and ass certainly don't hurt the quality any, but I agree with a lot of the posters with the thought that it was sets like these that brought me to the site. I get so bored with mainstream porn and bleach-blonde tanned California girls (not meaning any offense towards any SGs who happen to be blonde in CA, but you know what I mean). I love the sheer creation aspect of what some of the girls come up with.
To use Squeak for another example, I gravitate towards blogs that show a large amount of creativity as well. I remember a well loved blog entry of hers that was about her giant blue peep going to the strip club to earn some money so she could stay home and play video games all day. To this day it was the cutest/funniest things I've ever read. Mainstream models just don't come up with neat stuff like that. If there was an entire book of blog entries like that, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Hell, maybe somebody should get on that 'SuicideGirl Confessions...available at Amazon now!'
After my last comment I feel like I should explain myself. Simply put..look at these images:
We could have sets that look like that. How? Simple, take what you would pay for 3 sets and buy one. Do less releases in a week, and we as viewers shouldn't demand as many.
But you need something every day right?
Well since you demand over 50 images, release half on one day and half the next. that would mean all the photos have to be interesting. To get images like this we need to be able to drop a dime on a few resources. The budget of three sets for one can make that happen.

I didn't know we were voting on anything . I just like the time and effort that go into the sets in this thread and hoped to point out some others might like. I agree that it would be amazing if you all got paid more- but I guess I just don't think SG is the vehicle for that?
I have seen some amazing previews of sets that go on zivity- and while I don't have the time or money to look at both sites, I'm pretty sure that is where a lot of our old archived favorites roam.

SG is a bigger forum, a better brand, a bigger beast. With the right conditions it could turn itself into a generational brand that won't become passe. And we aren't voting, I'm just pointing out what I think makes sets exceptional, in my humble opinion. No worries.

I worry sometimes that SG will become just that, for the reasons highlighted in this thread.
Some sets that come to mind, not sure if they all count, but they're all definitely more 'themed' than the norm.

Agreed. I always find it (the posting and choosing of sets) to be a struggle between gratification of masses and the type of branding that you describe. How to balance and appease those forces.
(Not personally posting and choosing, but, well, you know...)
