Okay there's a bunch of songs out there inspired by S/G (and rightly so, yeah?) but came across this one on an old cassette tape if you can imagine, that must have been around long before the website, on of all things, a fishing boat that started life in Belfast and was now doing Salmon runs between Canada and Alaska...there was a shitload of music that had just accumulated over the years, in all forms and of all types, including this one, which was called, according to what was left on the frayed out label, "Theme" I could only read part of the line that was apparently the performing band but what I could read was "------mharu--" That and the fact that they sounded a bit like Buckcherry but with possibly a slight accent is all I know!!! It was obviously a home recorded tape and old, but really a pretty damn good song, despite the drawbacks of being on a decrepit tape!! I would love to find out more about this song and considering the lyrics, I thought someone on here might know...
We drove everyone else crazy listening to this over and over to pick out the lyrics, but unfortunately neither one of us knows an atom of music so don't even ask!!! All I can tell you is it was a fast, slightly punk flavored, hardcore type tune, just vaguely reminiscent of the song "Too drunk to Fuck" (which might actually be more the reason that I thought they sounded a bit "Buckcherry")
Anyway...The Lyrics...here they are to the best of our ability....:
"Theme"
Haahhh..
You can keep your paper-cutout-doctor-don't-tell
Beauty Queens
Take all those photo-finished-tinted
Titty magazines
I need a suicide girl
Don't need the shiny wrapping paper
Empty box inside
Don't want the standard issue
Tissue, tinsel, trophy bride
Want a suicide girl
She can stand you up-take you down
Coronate you and knock off the crown
She"s a suicide girl
She will take you someplace
She can get you high
If fate walked in
Said "Boy you better run -
Or you will surely lose your life"
You'd turn around-lay right back down
Sing "It's a damn good way to die"
She"s a suicide girl
Lookin for a mama - baby -
Bitch t' make you a man
Lookin for your luck-
The apocalyptic fuck
She's the only one who can
Make you mighty- make you crawl
Make you believe in anything at all
She's a suicide girl
I seen enough of daddy's money daughters
Can't see past the mirror frame
Sick of slick, dollar-up per dick
Never gonna know your name
Don't need to be the latest squeeze
Someone's pushin' little buttons about
She's on her phone, it's on the ring
Look who's just this minute's thing,
Come round, her girls can check you out
I need whore, I need a friend
I need a woman take me end to end
I need a suicide girl
She will take me someplace,
She's gonna make me high
If fate walks in, says "Boy you better run-
Or you will surely lose your life"
I'll fuckin' turn around, goin right back down
"It's a damn good way to die"
Be my suicide girl
You'll be my Hero!! Uberthanks even for the effort !! - I've tried everywhere I know to search, with no luck...I think maybe it might be something that never was released in the U.S. or maybe something that was never commercially released. The lyrics are just so perfect though, so it's become this aggravating obsession to find out who the hell did the song - aggravating cause I've had shit for success in my hunt!! It may be hopeless if it's just somebodies garage band or a never published demo or whatever, but ...go raibh míle maith agat...(Thanks/Gaelic) for all help!!!!
The lyrics have a striking resemblance to Marshall Crenshaw's Cynical girl from the early '80s. One could be a "me too" or a "we'll never get caught" plagiarism or maybe just a rewrite of a song that wasn't quite right. Do you have an audio you could send to jlplace@comcast.net I'm an old fart music obsessive, have not heard it all, but nearly.
