Ok, so i did a few searches to see if this topic has been posted, and didn't find one exactly pertaining to this, sorry if there is - I couldn't find it.

So, as I'm sure a lot of you are aware, often, when a Hopeful has a set coming soon, they post about it in their blog, then send a whole shitload of friend requests to people. (I really don't know what they go off of to determine who they select, maybe who's online?) Well, it really isn't a big deal to me, that's what "decline selected" is for, right? And I even have accepted a few. However, here's the thing, followed by my question.

Like 2 or 3 days ago, I got one of these requests, went and read the girl's blog, set coming soon, etc. Followed by like 12 people commenting, "Hey, thanks for the add, can't wait to see the set!" Cool. Doesn't bother me in the least. So, I leave a comment something like this: "Hey, welcome to the site! Your pics look good, the photographer is known around here, anxious to see it. I did however decline your add - seemed weird since I have never even spoken to you before. Best of luck!" Simple, right? I didn't say anything offensive...did I? No problem, right?

So, fast forward to today: Same girl, friend request. I'm like, Ok...at least pay attention...So, I go back to her blog, where I was going to highlight my first reply, and see, maybe, just maybe, if she did comment on that post I put there, and was trying again. Nope. My comment had been deleted. Wow. Really cool. At least have the courtesy to remember the person...put me on ignore if I pissed you off for being honest and polite about it.

Anyways....Has something like this happened to someone else? It must have..How exactly do you handle it? Should I be naming the girl to the staff? Seriously, it kind of pushed my buttons, and other than put her on ignore, what would you folks do?

(Edit- Once more, I apologize if this topic is somewhere, I just idn't see it)

I am getting bored of declining random hopefuls friendship requests, but I never bother commenting on their journals. I'd just press ignore if I was that bothered about it.

It's a perfect example of the annoying new breed of hopefuls though.

Nothing to write staff about, but truly irritating nonetheless.

You can turn off accepting friend's requests. I'm getting close to that point myself.

Send them a return picture of your genitals, that should prevent any repeat friend requests.

Weiner tucked back pics are equally effective.

I hate it.

I get at least a pair of friend requests a day from hopefuls I've never spoken to that coincidentally have a set going up that same day or very soon.

It's getting so hard to resist the urge to say something snarky when I get those. Set spammers get an automatic "Not For Me". I don't care how good their set is. Annoying me is a poor plan.

Having friend requests turned off has been a blessed relief. Every once in a while a girl collector will message me I WANT 2B UR FRND! but it's allowed me to spend time doing stuff I actually enjoy on the site, like the groups, rather than tediously deleting a bunch of annoying hopefuls I've never spoken to and getting bored and frustrated.

That would work for me.

And it really has to be annoying to you all that are Pink here..I get about 1-2 a day..you all must get like...well, too many.

Anyways..Its nothing I can't deal with, just this particular one set me off, when my 'polite' reply was deleted, and they didn't even take the time to say, "ok, won't hit him with one again"..Whatever, I'm calmer now smile

That, or limit the amount of friend requests one can send in a given amount of time.

I once replied to a random friend request, asking why she would request me when we've never spoken. She seemed to take offence and I got a nasty reply. Very annoying.

AS a hopeful, it is irritating me. I have comments on my set like "hey, great set. Now you should check mine out." I go to MR I look at ones I want to see. I dont friend people that I randomly pick... almost all my friends have friended me. I like to check in on groups and to see new sets, but just because I am a hopeful doesnt mean i like your set or will comment on it. I just hate to see hopezillas give the rest of us bad names.

I was on myspace for networking with other herpers.
The "friend request" (and other) spam got so bad there I left. Then a reptile specific social networking site went up - I joined - and within a month or two, every single contact from myspace was there, having ditched myspace.

I'm new guy so I can't speak to the problem here specifically - but the point that I'm trying to make is that if there is community concern about this from the wise regular veterans, it would be wise for the admin staff to take note and do something.

I like the idea of limited number of allowed friend requests per day. That sounds like it would both be extremely easy to implement codewise and also be very effective.

I actually personally have enjoyed looking through the hopefuls. But I don't need a FR to do that, the link to where the sets are is easy to find.

and some of them don't even bother replying.
I usually leave a "Hello...?" somewhere and see if they talk to me.
It is annoying. I remember this kind of spam being mentioned in a thread of the Hopefuls group.

It is a symptom of the myspaz mentality to friend request everyone to have eighty bazillion "friends", and it has spilled over with the new breed of hopefulzillas and their have-to-be-pink-at-all-costs-asap agenda. puke

I get one about once a week or so. I guess I'm just that much of a bitch in the hopeful groups that they leave me alone, for the most part.

haha yeah lol, i dont tend to be too nice to other hopefuls that i dont really know, so they leave me alone too, for the most part

i do get a lot of requests around the time i put out sets or new pictures, mostley from girl collectors, so its not just the hopefuls doing it.

i always wait till i have a bunch and change my settiings to private then set it back, it usually erases all the requests for me,
lately i have been accepting a few requests of hopefuls i see around a lot, but if they dont talk to me for a while after the add, i take them off.

The way the system is now, this is actually really effective. Very few people clicking not for me can drastically effect a sets chances of going live.

We are working on better spam reporting tools, but in the meantime not for meing their set is pretty effective.
