Although I think MR is a good idea in principle I think it's still too easy for a set to be accepted to it. "Minimum quality requirements"....since when was that what made a potential SuicideGirl? I trawl through a ton of shitty amateur sets that will NEVER see the light of day posted by girls who haven't posted a thing on the site apart from OH HAI I WANNA BE SG in the Hopefuls group.

Second Chance Sunday was a better idea but it was still too much of a general catchment area. Maybe a good start would be to just eliminate the "upload directly to MR" option so ALL sets have to go through SR first before being chosen for MR. And maybe the "minimum quality requirements" could be stepped up to include a girl's activity on the site. Helluva lot of work for staff I know but it could be worth it.

Here endeth my two cents biggrin

Personally, I feel like MR turned sg into a shitty, alt porn version of American Idol or HotorNot.
I look to sg to not just know what is hot, but to define it, and show it to me.
Not the other way around.
The site as a whole was SO much better pre-MR.

/ 2 cents

I really like the point your making about SG defining/changing the conventional ideas of beauty, rather than fitting to the member's ideas of beauty/sexiness.

+1 biggrin

Honestly, I think without the MR sets being available I'd cancel my membership. That's where the interesting concepts seem to pop up more often- the staff picks seem to have more "abstract" themes, as it were.

The 'interesting' sets that go into MR are ones that didnt go for SR at all, they are submitted by SG's that know what theyre doing and know they'll get accepted that way anyway. Most of the sets in MR are boring and repetative from hopefuls with a few excpetions. At least thats my observation.
I think the staff picks are usally the more interesting ones, not 'abstract' which isnt a bad thing anyway.
I dont understand why you say your paying for your subscription only for the member review sets, Theyre not official sets and you can find free user generated content anywhere on the web.

I agree. You are right on the button.

If MR wasn't around maybe they would have to choose the interesting concepts just as much as the abstract...... I think it makes it easier on the staff to not have to make too serious of decisions.

That's possible, but then it's more my personal preference- i.e. the conceptual stuff jumps out at me more. It's not objectively better, just what's more likely to catch my eye.

I've been thinking more about what those people said about curating a couple pages back, and I think it's true. It's like there is too much MR to keep up with, and I'd like to just see the best curated onto the front page without thinking that I have to do my part to find and comment and seek out and support the really good sets. I like the idea of people paying to have sets curated that represent the ideology and what have you of the company best. Oh well. I do like things about MR, too.

I agree, there is too much MR to keep up with. If I don't log in for a couple days, I can totally miss out on some really good sets and never find them. I guess this all goes with the fact that there's so many girls on the site now and people are doing more and more sets because not all of them get accepted

I agree... I think maybe a separation of the SGs and Hopefuls MR sets on a different little area on the front page could fix this (kinda like it was before). That way sets stay up longer. Thanks god staff review has started to accept sets again, I think that's my next avenue...

Which leads to the returning point that there should be a waiting time between set submition. Like. months.

I monitor the front page pretty closely and look at every set that goes live, and i still think MR gets it right. The sets going live on the front page, that have been in MR and still well deserving. It's just a pity there aren't enough hours in the day to put up ALL the deserving sets.

I think I'm slightly more nervous about the MR than I am the Staff review.
I think the nice surprise of staff picks is nicer. smile

Yes, me too.^ I don't think there's been too much that has gone live that I can argue with. There's just so much!

I think this thread is about the sets that actually make it to the front page.

One of the things that I think might be happening is that there are so many sets that people obviously can't look at them all, so they're commenting based on the thumbnails or a shot or two...so sets where the girl doesn't get naked or the set is uploaded wrong or there is no coherent story line end up doing fine.

Usually I give the thumbnails a cursory glance, and if drawn in by two or three shots, I'll look at the whole set. If I don't like the color scheme from the thumbnails, then I won't even look at any full-size shots. I'm damn lazy that way.

^I do the exact same thing.
It's very rare for me to look through an entire set.
I think that some people have made it sound like it's too easy to get a set accepted..
It really isn't.

I think it is great that so many girls have a platform to express themselves in MR. It was originally changed so girls could have their sets go live with out having to wait so long with their sets in the que. I greatly appreciate that aspect. I also feel that girls have the ability to be more creative and not follow any strict guidelines, as it was with Staff Picks.

I do feel that there are a lot of great sets that have been sitting in MR for a long time that I felt were great and should go live.

Then I see sets that look like crap in comparison that are getting a ton of great feedback in MR and will probably go live, and all I can do is scratch my head and wonder why.

I think that as far as what gets picked up to go front page from MR, there hasn't been much I can argue with, as I've said before.
Dice, as far as what you are saying about the sub par sets getting great feedback in MR, I have noticed some with lots of comments, but I also noticed that the percentage of "loved it's" on those same sets is pretty low in comparison..

i just think the creativity of the set should seriously be considered... some of the girls are really creative and just don't ge noticed... put out a beatiful set.. and don't get recognised for it

I hope this comment gets picked up, because I spotted the 'member review' ribbon on a set the other day, and I had no idea what it meant. I checked the Help section, I checked the boards and nowhere did it really specifically state what Member review was, and how we could influence it. I can figure out logically that it's members reviewing whether a set is good enough, but is it just via the 'loved it' or 'not for me' mechanic? Does saying 'loved it' on a MR set push it up in rankings or something? How does it work?

The 'loved it/not for me' is a gauge of how the members like the set supposedly. The idea is to make useful comments though. Loved it ones go up for everyone to see and 'not for me' comments get sent to staff. This is how I understand it anyway. We get to check them out and put in our two cents, but ultimately there is a group of people composed of staff, some SG's maybe photographers that pick what sets go to the front page.

I definitely think the criteria for getting a set accepted for MR should be tougher though. I feel like some really good sets get lost in the shuffle. I see amazing sets all the time that are lost in MR land.

this thread is worth reading too: How are sets chosen from MR to be sets of the day?

and i agree with Iron_Lion, just put in your two cents. Don't make a big business out of it, in the end it is not on us to decide. Only staff knows what they want to do with their site and they don't care too much about what a few in a million of members might think about this.
Just have fun with the sets you like and comment on it.

I strongly agree with this. I recently considered doing a set with green screen and a lot of work and I just figured I couldn;t risk investing that much money. If creativity was recognised a little more, I think quite a few girls would take a few more risks and go a bit bigger, which would be great for everyone!
