Summer of 2002, I thought, was the cutoff, because MisterSatan isn't OS, yet.

No. It will never be expanding it's membership.

The "Old Skool" designation is reserved for those members who joined SG between it's launch in Sept 2001 and the first major design overhaul in June of 2002.

There are a number of members of the Old Skool that do not have the Old Skool label because they started a new account for whatever reason but have since verified that they were, indeed, a member 'back in the day.'

I know Tuffy already posted, but I used the search function to find these, so by golly I'm posting them even if the point is moot.

one of the main reasons for "old skool" is because if you joined before july 2002, we have no way of knowing the date you joined. (july 2002 was when we first started maintaining a real user database.) it used to say "june 2002", but that wasn't right either. we thought this way would be more fun. anyway, there is no special status about being "old skool". they have to pay just like everyone else and they are bound by the same rules as everyone else. and in fact you might even find it embarrassing to be "old skool" on a website. it all depends on your outlook. ultimately i don't think it matters very much.

It's like this:

My grand father fought in the Korean War. He is a Korean War vet.

My uncle fought in the Viet Nam war. He is a Viet Nam vet.

My uncle will never be a Korean War vet because he did not fight in the korean war.

Is that analogy easy enough to understand. We were here pre-0602 and you were not. Barring the invention of a time machine, that will not change.

I feel bad for the poor dudes that were part of the second congress and stuff. Maybe we should call them "Our Founding Fathers" too!
