Change make you puke? Think we jumped the shark? Fear and loathing, whining and seething goes here.

Tech problems, on the other hand, they go here.

Please post once to this thread only. 5 or 6 of you posted over 60 times to the old thread making it impossible to wade through.

Foo. I had one comment that was a nice, detailed, constructive description of my issues with the new layout in the old thread. Is there any way we could still see the old thread so we can just copy and paste our most coherent comments?

If not, I'll edit this and retype it.

EDIT:

Well, I don't remember the nice long thing, but it was basically along the lines of Dave's layout. I miss being able to see the recent stuff at a glance without scrolling allllllllll the way down the page for it. I don't have a problem with the font at all, and the colors are too close together but whatever. The other thing that really hurts my eyes though is the friends list, and the layout on the journal pages in general. There doesn't seem to be any grid or any logical placement of anything, and the friends list runs on forever and truncates people's names.

Okay, one minor complaint:

You reversed the order that members' candid pics go in. Some people (myself included) had sequential pics. They're now backwards. I understand the appeal of having the newest pictures first, though.

Like I said, minor complaint.

Oh yeah, and there's no longer a "Submit " or "Save Entry" button when you're making a journal entry. You have to click on the "Save Your Settings" bar (which is a menu bar, not a button or link) to get your journal to update.

Ummm...argh.
I'd like to serioulsy suggest again that someone considers moving the newest content back up towards the top of the page, so if you're on one page, for example, your journal, you can get to all the things you need without scrolling all over the place.
something like this:

-and also, I think that there needs to be darker tones or more colors in the boards, the contrast just causes eyes strain for everyone. It's all working prety ok in most other places because there's enough other colors to balance out the page in front of your eyes, but on the board ages, partially because they're so long, it's hard to get your eyes to work the way this layout wants us to.
Dave
****update****
whoops, I didn't read the instructions and I did post twice. sorry, I just thought it was a new posting of the same comment.

it's all turned into a technicolor yawn.
Some of Sutu's art is very nice, but overall the re-design just looks awful. colour scheme especially.
the majority of people seem to think the same way...

I agree, poopydave's mock up looks pretty damn fine. The current one's a bit south-to-southwest.

My List:

I agree with PoopyDave's idea for moving the new sets/words to the top so they're featured. They seem "hidden" at the bottom of the page.

The font for the boards/journals/comments is too small, and my resolution is fairly low (1024xsomething).

My Candids are in reverse order, and you can't see the list until you scroll way down. Can they get moved somehow?

The Friends List. If you change anything, please please please change the way the Friends List is displayed. It's too long, and having people's names cut off just seems icky.

I hadn't finished reading everyones comments on the last whine and complain thread. ( I think it woulda taking me a couple days too.) So Im whining and complaining about that.
My eyes start hurting everytime I sit down to do anything on the site. tongue
That's my main complaint. My eyes start to hurt and then it turns into a headache.
I'm having a ton of technical problems. I have posted one of them on the BUGs thread. Its still not fixed. I just figure they'll get fixed one of these days. Plus lots of people are writing some of the same stuff I'm having difficulties with in the BUGS thread.
So my main complaint is MY EYES HURT. (not something I'm making up.)

Umm i don't really remember my post in the old thread but it went something like this: The new site strains and hurts my eyes. The old site was very well organized, with definate divisions in areas , and quite easy to navigate. Now everything is thrown together in one big area with little margin for the mind to focus on one place. I do like to mention that everything does seem to load faster and that is quite a plus. And whats with the artsy banners? Yet, I do have to agree with Dave , If you are going with the vertical retangle design put all the new content on the top.

OLD SKOOL

i am using mozilla firebird on a 15.4 inch widescreen monitor. (although i have very simliar problems in IE)

the site is now nearly unusable. when i read the boards, i catch myself holding my hand cupped over my eyes to reduce the pain. my screen is broken down like this: 1/3 dark gray. 1/3 bright tiny text. 1/3 dark gray. i feel like i'm in a hole. it really hurts.

this is not resistance to change, this is resistance to having my eyes feel severe pain. changing the font size in my browser fubars too many other things, with text overlapping everywhere (for example, right now i'm typing UNDERNEATH the smilies and insert menus.

i know you guys think we're just whining. you're right, most people are resistant to change and you were going to get hammered by complaints no matter what. but just because you were going to get complaints no matter what doesn't mean that these complaints are unjustified. the site hurts on my monitor. period.

oh, and gallery does a super jumpy resize thing that makes it extremely annoying to use. please give us the old way of clicking into photos back, because i can't stand gallery view.

My complaint is that it's ugly. Where as previously calling SG porn was more only about half serious, this version of the site does have a distinctly trashy porn feel to it. I don't like the color scheme, the layout, or the design. I think the new sets were much better off on the upper left side. For the most part, I don't think there was anything wrong with the old site design, it was prettier, easier to navigate, and felt more in keeping with the nature of hte site. This design doesn't feel nearly as playful. One nice thing about the original design is that there were pictures or at least thumbnails of the girls just about everywhere you looked. That is no longer the case. I'd ask you to change the site back, but i'd be just about as happy being able to toggle back to the original design.

Ok, seriously.................
The old SG was absolutely one of the hippest site design on the net. There was really NO other site like it. The excellent design was one big factor in my decision to join.
The new site: old hat. Nothing seems inventive here
Sorry to say, but this design would have made me much more hesitant to join. It just looks too much like any other site now, and too much like a commercialized porn site.
Why the change anyway?

My one complaint was posted in the bugs thread, but Olivia contends that it isn't really a bug. The new nav on member's pages makes it so that every time a member's page is loaded, the browser loads everything under each tab. Thus many member's page absolutely crawl with certain browsers- using Firebird 0.6.1 on a Win98 laptop, each member page took >1 minute to load. It's a cool feature to be able to instantly switch between each tab, but I hope there's a better way to implement it.

My only other comment is that the default font size could be a bit bigger. Increasing my browser's font size breaks some parts of the layout.

it's been a couple days. when i saw the site change for the first time i instantly thought "trashy" and now that i've thought about it, i think it's just the fucking banners. if the old banners were there when i saw the site change, i would have been like "oh, all they did was put some wallpaper up and streamlined everything a bit!" besides the banners, i think everything else is pretty neato.

except for the fact that i wish we could have launched the re-design after all the bugs were worked out. if that's even possible.

I'm a web/interactive designer, and am all for trying new/inventive things with design. My only complaint about the site is that the different shades of gray and different colored table cells don't adequately separate topics/sections for me visually, so it becomes difficult for me to differentiate what I'm looking at. The site becomes overall too boxy, and the hierarchy isn't apparent. The old site, somewhat a la K10K, was better at separating sections visually.

I do, however, like the idea of there being more art. I *LOVE* the art banners personally, and think the space could be used to showcase lots of different styles of art from sg staff/girls and/or members. I also like the background pattern-- not necessarily the color but the background itself. I also like that the sg girl pics look/are bigger on the front and profile pages.

What to say? I don't know if I can make any one (or 5 or 10) clear coherant suggestions. Though I like some of the new navigational features, overall I have to agree with what I've been reading. The look of the site is not great. The extreme contrast is hard to look at. I don't like using Safari and hope you'll get the site working on I.E. 5 again.
So...
- Improving the contrast issue...
- I.E. 5 !!!
- Some compromise on layout issues like having recent pics etc. at the top of the page; friends list layout; choice of banner
- I wish the order of our pics were not flipped. I actually spent time loading my candids in a particular order

This is all I can think of for now...

Thanks for working to improve the site kiss

I definately can't wait for the banners to go away.

Here are the things that would make me happier:
-upping the contrast so my eyes don't hurt
-changing the friends list somehow so that it doesn't drag the page on so long
-same with comments...maybe do what we used to and have the comments switch to page 2 at 10 comments?
-more seperation between things, for example between areas of our profile answers, between favourite girls, etc
-new content at the top of the page instead of the bottom.

- The color theme isnt so bad if it was "dulled" down a notch or two. And given a more flowing style. Maybe allow some colors to drop back or be highlighted.

- Page allowing too many comments is a pain. Keep it short like the old way.

- As for the latest art "update" The banner art and so called future to show off art is a cool idea. But I think should be kept on a separate page on this site and not as the main banner on the front page. I didnt come here to discover new artists. (no knock against the artists) But I came here to see some beautiful women. The banner art seems to bring this cheesy, iconic, trying to sell feel that sucks even for the likes of this site. The old lady great backdrop should go away wink

- Defining borders would be nice. The grey's being the same tone. Dont make it easy. Use other shades or something for the top borders.

- As for the speed of the site. The old one loaded up fast as hell for me too as does this one. Can't say I can say if its faster or not. (Im on dsl)

- I still dont understand why a user "option" to allow the style to be chosen is such a problem? (considering it is using .css)

- Maybe you guys should have done a "vote" for new designs instead of just plopping it down on your customers without warning. Atleast this way we could have avoided such mass threads saying how much it "sucks" and could have gotten all this constructive criticism like in ths thread.

Far too Pink and Fluffy,....
I appreciate it's Suicide Girls by name, and its the Girls that make it by nature, but if i came across this site for the first time now, and saw the way it is and not the way it was, I wouldnt have looked twice never mind considered Joining.
The colours are realy painfull on my eyes too,
The site feels...too cold,....too clinical,....doesn't feel welcoming at all,.....and there are some great people on here,.....
Sorry,......really don't like it.

- I like the background design on its own, but it makes me feel like I'm in a morgue...or a coffin. Which is fine if that's the way it should feel, but I actually prefer that shade of gray that it's placed over.

-I think the font in and of itself is all right, but all these CAPS seem so unnecessary...I'm sure there're better, more appealing solutions to making headers with impact that don't require bolding and capping. With this particular font, anyway, it's rather painful to look at.

-Yes, I'm one of the people who don't like the banners, though it's already mentioned that they're getting changed every once a while. The nudity just somehow implies cheap porn site. The old design was much classier and appealed more the pin-up nature of the site.

But I'm more interested in suggestions, so off to the other topic I go. smile
