Sometimes chat takes a while to spin up, especially on an old computer. Sometimes, on a super old computer, chat never spins up. It's resource intensive.

No, that can't be it because they use the same program for chat on myspace and that still works. Must be a glitch. How do I contact SG? I really want to be able to use the chat function of this site!

This thread is the preferred method of contacting SG with regard to bugs. I don't know what MySpace uses for chat, but I doubt it's exactly the same as the one we use. In addition, once you hit the "chat" button, virtually anything that happens on that page is beyond the scope of things we can fix.

That said, the bug there is that the chat program doesn't handle people who don't belong to any groups at all very well. Join a group and the problem should go away. We can't fix it ourselves, but that's the workaround.

well i'm deserving of that... I think it's a good idea for this site to have some prereq's for chat memberships. they have them for plenty of other things... and I have submitted my request to join SGLA which I'm sure is being review diligently.

It's not a preqrequisite, per se. It's just that every group has its own chat channel, and so the chat program reads a list of all your groups, and freaks out if it can't find any. If I were you, I'd just join some public group that doesn't have strict requirements for entry.

You might see that with the flash uploader sometimes if you're on a slow connection and/or uploading a very, very large file. In those cases, tell it you want to continue, it should work eventually.
