I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but SG seems to be running like I'm on dial up. I have cable internet and everything else is running fine and pages are coming up at the same speed as normal, but Sg is running like crap!

It's really bumming me out. It's starting to feel like Myspace does....

Are they doing an update or something?

Im on 10mg cable, so i shouldnt have a problem

Me too. It's been like that for two days (slower than myspace actually). But I figured they'd be working on something and it'll speed up again soon smile

i've been experiencing this problem for weeks and it's really cramping my style, yo.

on a related note, i wonder if the word "fast" ever gets jealous of the word "slow"? "slow" can be expressed as "sloooow" to help visually augment its very definition, but the word "fast" can't do the same. i mean, "fst" doesn't quite work so well.

it's like "fast" is already fast enough.

poor, poor word. frown

I am going to take a shot at this.

This SG website is probably supported on a proprietary server. The server is much like your computer, the more things you try to do at once on that computer, the slower the computer is going to operate. If it's not on a proprietary server, it is shared with another website. The traffic between this website and the other website, or websites that it shares the server with, can cause the system to be slow...or lag.

High traffic will slow a server down immensely. I noticed that it got slow at about 5:00, once people got home from work and what not. The higher the traffic, the more the server has to interact with other computers, hence the entire system slows down.

They may also be in a bit beyond their heads. They might not of expected this many members, profiles, photographs and hotlinking pictures consume memory. Lack of memory space slows down a server and/or a computer.

If they are doing maintenance on the server, basic system maintenance, like you should do on your computer, it will slow down the server.

Basically what i am saying is. Be Happy. If the server is slowing down because of traffic, that means it has become more popular. It means that they're finally getting the attention they deserve. If it's slow because they are maintaining it, be happy, it will eventually be back to normal or better.

Oxy your going to have issues plain and simple. The server is based in the United States i am assuming, and you're connecting from overseas. We're having some pretty severe ice storms over here on the west coast and that will in fact effect your connection to the server.

Dude, just be a member for a while and get some experience with the site's normal performance before you post this kind of thing. Even then - everybody knows what a server is.

While i appreciate that, im playing WOW on a usa server with absoulutly no slow down, while also looking at us web pages.

But switch them off, then look at sg, SG on its own is SLOW.

Yes... I have broadband, and every website from anywhere including the US loads fast and is fine. Even the sluggish MySpace isn't as slow loading as SG most of the time. SG has been loading and refreshing very slowly for weeks for me now, and it's getting extremely painful to watch... at times I think even slower than a 56K dial up connection.

Of course the many possible reasons have been stated, but I don't understand why? I'm sometimes on other sites that receive just as much traffic as both SG and MySpace, so it must be something to do with the coding no? I don't know back end stuff so I'm just speculating.

It actually explained a bit for me. Not all of us know everything. wink
And yeah, this site is ruining my friendships with my people. I do not have the kind of time to wait 60+ seconds for each page to load! Fix it!

I have 112 friend requests and 100 something messages i'm trying to answer. I have no bulk delete button. I have to wait until I'm done answering all my messages, individually delete all of them then approve the friend requests then individually delete all of those from my inbox. It takes 60 seconds or more for each page to load, half the time it leads me to the IE "we cannop open this page" page. This is frustrating.
