Is there a a way to retroactively batch change my blog entries to either "friends only" or "members only".

Some of my older posts somewhere are able to turn up my name in Yahoo or Google searches...which is not good if I'm out hunting for work smile I'd be bummed if I didn't get a job because my prospective employer saw I was a human being and enjoyed naked women...GOD FORBID. mad Anyway...I REALLY don't want to change all my blog entries manually.

I'm concerned too... sometimes I feel like there are not efforts being made to protect my privacy. Why are search engines able to turn up blog entries from a site that requires members to pay???

I dunno if you're kidding or not, but anything that someone can see when they're not logged in will turn up on Google.

SP, I'm sure someone had the same problem and whipped up some kind of script to do it... it's definitely been done for sites like LiveJournal. Hopefully they will see this thread :-)

I'm afraid SG may have something in the FAQ about not allowing any scripts like that. blackeyed But if I'm wrong, I'm curious as to whether it's possible to make something like that. I wouldn't mind looking into it.

Unfortunately, there's nothing like that available. I had to go back and make four years of journal entries members-only a while back. Now I'm just really careful to set everything to members only when I write it.

Maybe it will be a feature in a future rollout. We can hope!

Not quite. As far as I know, it is possible to tell Google not to list things although they are visible to everyone.

By default, Google indexes everything. I know there are ways to code stuff to tell it not to, but I don't think SG has done that, because SG blogs come up a LOT. Is there a check box I'm just not seeing in my account preferences?

Google will index your profile. If your blog entries are set to members only or friends only, google won't cache them. smile Your profile, however, is public unless you select the setting to set your profile to anonymous, which greatly limits how you can interact with the site.

SoPhast, are you worried about your profile page too? Seems like you might be SOL if that's the case :-(

Nah....my profile page doesn't show up in google...though I may have to change what town I'm from as there are only three of us from my town here on SG.

It's the bog that worries me...but I'm working on going back changing the settings...however, I think it will remain as a cached page on google until the next time the crawler comes thru...which is who knows when...lol.

The Beastie Boys need to do a reprise of Licensed to ILL and do a song called, "You Gotta Fight for Your Right for Porn."
