People have been able to see your comments for like ever. I dunno why it's such a big deal now.

Yeah. It was another click away I guess.

Well, you can change your settings so only your friends can see your groups and comments.

I don't even want to see it on my homepage though. I don't care if it's in the tabs like before, that was fine. But I know where I post I don't want to see it on my homepage as well, plus it looks like crap now.

this is a lot like the other images posted, but i figured if i made pictures it might be another vote in that direction. testimonials and groups and comments on the main page don't bother me for privacy reasons(cause everything is accessable anyways, and if you are that concerned with privacy don't post it online) BUT those things aren't really all that significant to anyone but yourself(and your stalkers, which can find stuff anyways) and i would rather see my info, my friends, and my blog on my main pages because that's what i go on the site for(well after the girls tongue). make the blog the width of the colum and expand friends and favSG's

i don't like the top 10, and if it's in fact being set up to be able to link to others with like interest, they can still make the categories comma list style but make them links(like linking to a search page with using that word as a search term), it's just more user friendly i think. also i like to have artists back.

i don't mind the personal tab(glad it was changed from "sex" thanks!), but maybe have more options with it and the other tabs?
and finally on the contact page make the outside links horizontal(looks better) and the whole profile section needs to be able to expand(maybe with a cute simple scroll bar), because it's not just what WE fill in that is being cut off(look at what would be the send button) but i want to be able to enter in as much crap as i want to in all the interest fields and what not.

Generally I've found "yeah, but that's dumb" isn't a good reply when a client asks me for something. I mean, yeah, it usually is dumb, but I've not had good success with that approach.

You're entirely right that comment stalking was only a click away before, but if most people seem to have a problem with it, you're not going to change their minds.

And as someone mentioned earlier, my profile looks pretty silly with two "Sorry, friends only!" banners and an "I'm private" bar up top. Makes me look like more of an asshole than I already am.

What are you talking about? I didn't call anyone dumb.

kogun's comment about it being a HUGE violation of HIS privacy and comparing SG to the US gov't seemed to be a bit of overkill for something that existed before this latest revision.

I offered no opinion or criticism about the functionality or location nor to his reaction or any suggestions on how to improve the situation. I merely explained that this feature has been around for a long, long time and you currently have the choice to not share that information with people who are not on your friend's list.

You give up the "right to privacy" when you post things on the internet. I'm not trying to be funny or witty here...I'm saying this with a straight face...there is no expectation of privacy when you post things on the internet. If you don't want people to knwo that you like to do XYZ in your private life...you don't post it in your profile on a pornographic website.

If the site leaked your credit card information...or your home address...or your telephone number....I'd be right behind you. However....you're arguing about voluntarily-made comments on a site that you voluntarily joined....in a public forum.

You violate your OWN privacy by posting anything personal. Take responsibility for what you write.

That's not what I said. What I said, and what I meant, was that when I say "yeah but that's dumb", not in as many words, but try to explain how their concerns are unfounded or illogical, I've only ever been met with further resistance.

Case in point, I mentioned earlier in this thread or the other one just as you did that if you wanted your comments hidden there's a setting for it, a setting that only existed recently, and before anyone could see your comments, regardless of it being hidden behind some magic tab. And subsequent replies were that they still wanted it off, and thought the "Friends Only!" banner was silly.

Another example is FaceBook's "Feeds" which evoked huge public outcry from its members as a major lack of privacy issue. The developers did nothing short of getting on their knees, slamming their chests, and chanting "mea culpa" in response. And yet, when I saw the feature, it could easily be turned off and told you nothing you couldn't already figure out on your own.

Often it's the appearance of security that people like more than actual security.

That is outstanding. Although I wouldn't mind if the "About Me" section were still there.

I love this. It all makes so much sense.

Best so far, by far.

Look all I was trying to say is I feel exposed , I guess is the word, having that information on my front page for people to see. The tabs were fine I really didn't care cause that was like a little out of the way, but now it's hey look. plus that friends only thing looks stupid and really doesn't fix shit IMO.

Also now the 'about me' shit is a little out of the way, which I don't like. As I feel that is a better representation of me than what groups I belong to or what I just wrote somebody.

Honestly I just like the basic shit for my front page- a about me section and a blog and quote.......that would be my ideal front page.

As for my US Gov. comment I was just implying for a "Punk Site" it sure is starting to feel more Big-Brother, and this is coming from somebody that actually voted Republican.

Yeah... the format changes are very odd, and very annoying, especially that the freedom to write what you like sidebar, has now been replaced by the ridged (125 characters only WTF!!??) claustrophobic boxes!

Now you have to only imagine what people have written as the writing descends into oblivion! It's like reading a book that you're not allowed to know the ending of. Grrrrgh!!

And what's this "top ten" thing? ridiculously formulaic and restrictive. What happened to the Artists bit?

I've been a fan of SG for years, but I've only been an official member for a week or more, so being in the middle of writing my profile one day (with a layout that worked pretty well), to come back the next to see half of what I'd written cut off, or with a warning of using over 125 characters is just a bit annoying... only just a bit! honest!

However, I do like the extra 2 pics thing at the top. wink

Ok, rant over! mad

That is totally useless feedback.... every design change on this site gets that criticism -- I hate it. I liked the last one.

Lil_Tuffy

I' m not usually one of those but yes, I have to agree that the last profile layout was perfect and way better than the current.
The worst things about this one are the subscribed groups showed on the first page, the testimonials and also the font used for the intros.
